A recent survey from iShare into cellphone straps, focusing in particular on disposal, revealed many interesting habits regarding Japanese people’s phone decorations.
Demographics
Between the 24th and 29th of March 2010 507 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 55.6% of the sample were male, 31.8% in their twenties, 32.9% in their thirties, and 35.3% in their forties.
A cellphone strap survey always gives me a chance to try to sell you cute cellphone straps! The pie chart above looks at function versus design – here’s a acupressure massage function and here’s the cute Mameshiba design for instance. Q1SQ4 indicates no-one’s interested on jumping in early onto the latest bandwagon, but just in case you are, can I recommend solar-powered Game and Watch keychain?
I usually change my strap when I find a new design, but I’ve not really been in the searching mood much, so I’ve got mostly rather tatty two-year-old straps right now.

It feels like ages since I’ve had the opportunity to flog you tat feature high quality wares from Strapya, so I make no apologies for littering this post with affiliate links, but please follow them anyway as Strapya do sell some strange stuff… Anyway, the survey in question was from Point On Research and reported on by japan.internet.com and looked at the matter of mobile phone accessories, looking at straps in particular.
Demographics
On the 5th of January 2010 800 mobile phone users completed a mobile phone internet-based questionnaire. The sample was exactly 50:50 male and female, 25.0% in their teens, 25.0% in their twenties, 25.0% in their thirties, and 25.0% in their forties.
I’ve not recently changed any straps on my mobile, but mostly due to neither my wife nor I upgrading phones.
I don’t know why I keep promoting Strapya as I make almost zero money out of it, just a few dollars a month or so…

What a super excuse to promote my favourite purveyor of Japanese tat (and I mean that as a compliment!) through this survey reported on by japan.internet.com and conducted by Point On Research into cellphone accessories.
Demographics
On the 11th of December 2008 exactly 1,000 cellphone-carrying members of the Point On Research monitor group (a footnote classified them as heavy users) completed a private (mobile?) internet-based questionnaire. The sample was 50:50 male and female, and 20.0% or the respondents were in their teens, 20.0% in their twenties, 20.0% in their thirties, 20.0% in their forties, and 20.0% in their fifties.
Dangling off my cellphone right now are: Monokuro Boo cubic pig screen cleaner; four-leaf clover with bells on; Miffy’s teddy bear; and Kobe Airport Hello Kitty jet, which for me is quite few. However, next week I should be getting a new one, as if I buy an advance ticket for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince it comes with a free gift of a Hogwarts scarf strap. I’ve got a million and one freebie straps and the like; I wonder if I could sell them on eBay?
Although you’ve probably missed delivery of a fukubukuro for New Year, if you’ve started thinking about Valentine’s Day, Strapya will engrave you and your loved one’s name on an acrylic strap.

I thought this suvey might have been better with a title like “Japanese cell phone strap usage”, but in the interests of truth in advertising, the headline you see gets straight to the point of this article! japan.internet reported on a recent survey conducted by goo Research into not buying cute cell phone straps from Japan but actually just mobile phone straps.
Demographics
Between the 2nd and 5th of November 2007 1,007 members of goo Research’s online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.9% were male, 18.1% in their teens, 20.2% in their twenties, 17.1% in their thirties, 17.0% in their forties, 16.9% in their fifties, and 10.8% aged sixty or older.
My own phone features straps featuring Monokuro Boo cubic pigs, a regional comedian, Hello Kitty (of course!), Miffy, Totoro, and a teddy bear. Really, I’m not making this up just to get you to buy cute cell phone straps from Japan.
Also note that the iPhone doesn’t have a eyelet to allow you to attach kawaii Japanese mobile phone straps to it, a mistake I think they must rectify to make it a success in Japan.
In the interests of disclosure, I ought to point out that this article may contain affiliate links, not that you couldn’t have guessed based on all the links trying to sell kawaii cell phone straps from Japan.
