Here’s some fun from goo Ranking, looking at what office romance situations people long to find themselves in, for both men and women.
Demographics
Over the 21st and 22nd of September 2010 1,072 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 68.2% of the sample were female, 10.4% in their teens, 18.0% in their twenties, 29.8% in their thirties, 26.2% in their forties, 8.7% in their fifties, and 7.0% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
This is the most romantic office photo I could find on flickr, from Gregg O’Connell:
No-one mentioned a quickie in the office stationery cupboard, the archetype of relationships in the British office at least. I remember when I started working first I always kept one out for any comings and goings from the stationery cupboard – I was so young and naive then; now I’m older but not really much the wiser. I’ll round out the roundup of the year through rankings with a look by goo Ranking at the highs and lows in love for 2009.
Demographics
On the 19th of November 2009 1,166 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 59.9% of the sample were female, 13.4% in their teens, 20.6% in their twenties, 28.2% in their thirties, 23.2% in their forties, 8.3% in their fifties, and 6.3% aged sixty or older. Given the subject matter of the survey, I presume only unmarried members of the sample completed it.
…and heaven knows I’m ragingly horny now, as Morrissey never did sing, which serves by way of an introduction to this survey from goo Ranking into what moments make you wish you yourself were madly in love, for both men and women.
Demographics
Between the 23rd and 26th of October 2009 1,162 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 62.9% of the sample were female, 10.5% in their teens, 20.7% in their twenties, 30.8% in their thirties, 21.9% in their forties, 9.0% in their fifties, and 7.0% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
When I was single, I don’t think I ever got a mad desire to rush out and pair off with anyone, it was more just frustration then acceptance of my situation. Read the rest of this entry »
Today’s bit of fun from goo Ranking looks at the moment you realise someone you’ve got your eye on is not girlfriend or boyfriend material, for both men looking at women and women looking at men.
Demographics
Between the 18th and 24th of September 2009 1,156 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 63.8% of the sample were female, 10.1% in their teens, 20.8% in their twenties, 30.0% in their thirties, 23.4% in their forties, 9.3% in their fifties, and 6.4% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. This does seem like a rather unusual demographic spread for goo Research. Read the rest of this entry »

Or wife, or boyfriend or husband, as the case may be, according to this recent survey from goo Ranking into what one wants to say to one’s partner, but cannot, for both men to women and women to men.

I think the biggest one for me is being able to have a rest at the weekends, followed by getting to bed a bit earlier – no, not that meaning, although by having too many late nights… ahh, my mother reads my blog so I’d better stop now!
I’m sure I translated a similar survey a couple of years ago, but I cannot find it for now. Read the rest of this entry »
It’s Sunday, so it must be goo Ranking day! This time they took a look at why people tend to be negative in matters regarding love, with separate rankings for both men and women.

I’d have thought for men that number 7=, going out is too much bother, would be more highly ranked, as I feel a lot of Japanese women are high-maintenance. Read the rest of this entry »
Here’s another great survey from goo Ranking, this time looking at what went through people’s minds when they had their first snog, for both men and women. As usual for goo Ranking, they have filtered out the more crude answers, although I hope I make up for it with the clip below…
Demographics
Between the 21st and 24th of April 2009 1,071 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 51.4% of the sample were female, 9.2% were in their teens, 13.7% in their twenties, 27.5% in their thirties, 27.5% in their forties, 11.7% in their fifties, and 10.4% aged sixty or older.
The lemons one must be some sort of Japanese children’s idea, I suppose!
I’ll not tell you about my first kiss thoughts, but here’s one line (at about 2:12) I did try on a Japanese girl that involved far too much explaining of the imagery afterwards.
For the second dose of sillyness for tonight, once again we have goo Ranking, this time looking at tactics people employ in love, for both men and women.
I must say, looking at a lot of the tactics here, if you try them out you’ll probably soon be hearing one of these lines, I suspect!
Looking at the women’s list, for number 24 I’d be more surprised to actually hear an apology… Read the rest of this entry »
goo Ranking this time takes us back to our childhood, when we began to feel the first pangs of love, asking what people did when they were young, foolish, and in love, for both women and men.
Demographics
Between the 23rd and 25th of March 2009 1,043 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private online questionnaire. 52.2% of the sample were male, 7.8% in their teens, 17.1% in their twenties, 28.2% in their thirties, 24.8% in their forties, 11.4% in their fifties, and 10.7% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
Note that the answers cover teenage crushed on not just schoolmates but also unobtainable figures like teachers and pop stars.
The photo at the top is actually of San Francisco, but it was the first one that popped up then I searched flickr. My thanks to Thomas Hawk for making the picture available. Read the rest of this entry »
