Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
I think the biggest one for me is being able to have a rest at the weekends, followed by getting to bed a bit earlier – no, not that meaning, although by having too many late nights… ahh, my mother reads my blog so I’d better stop now!

Yesterday was Sunday, but I was all jet-lagged, so please forgive me this post of postponed silliness (only mildly silly in itself, but I find the vast majority of Japanese blogs make Twitter look like Shakespeare) from goo Ranking into standby topics used in blogs, for both men and women.

Here’s another great survey from goo Ranking, this time looking at what went through people’s minds when they had their first snog, for both men and women. As usual for goo Ranking, they have filtered out the more crude answers, although I hope I make up for it with the clip below…

I’ll not tell you about my first kiss thoughts, but here’s one line (at about 2:12) I did try on a Japanese girl that involved far too much explaining of the imagery afterwards.
Most university graduates start work in Japan on or around the first of April, so this survey from Macromill Inc interviewed the fresh faces who had been at their companies for just over a month to learn about then new members of society’s opinions.

On the 12th and 13th of May 2009 516 members of the Macromill monitor group who were born in 1986 or 1987 and had found a job completed a private internet-based questionnaire. The sample was exactly 50:50 male and female.
Wow, there’s a lot of very good information in this survey, and I could easily spend the next day or two drawing conclusions! Note in Q3SQ2 the points of dissatisfaction for women, suggesting that even after just a month in the job, gender discrimination is already obvious to them. On the other hand, in Q5 one in eight women plan to quit when they get married, and then another quarter after they have a baby.
In Q7, I hate drinking sessions at work and would probably choose all the reasons listed, except that it’s talking shop all the time that irritates me, not not talking shop as asked! Read the rest of this entry »

goo Ranking this time takes us back to our childhood, when we began to feel the first pangs of love, asking what people did when they were young, foolish, and in love, for both women and men.

With these silly goo Rankings I do occasionally get creative with my translation, and I get some feedback from my readers about my less than literal translations, but I hope that since these surveys are just a bit of fun, any creativity (or flat-out errors) can be excused. For example, this survey question would directly translate as – actually, now I’ve started analysing my translation I cannot actually give a good literal translation. Perhaps I shouldn’t have even started this train of thought!
Talking of literal translations, the first number six for women actually reads “I can’t eat sushi without removing the rust“, so I hope you’ll let me off with that change!
