goo Ranking took a look at what experiences on reaching one’s thirties people can identify with, for both women and men.
Demographics
Between the 5th and 7th of November 2012 1,049 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 58.8% of the sample were female, 10.2% in their teens, 14.6% in their twenties, 27.5% in their thirties, 25.1% in their forties, 11.0% in their fifties, and 11.7% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. Perhaps only those over thirty answered this question.
There’s a suspicious 5% gap between each answer for the women, so that would mean the top answer only got 20 votes, which does seem very low, especially since for the men there seems to be around 100 votes for their top answer.
I don’t think I really felt anything particular in my thirties, although I can identify with many of the answers with regards to hitting my forties!

A nice and cheery survey today from goo Ranking, looking at when spouses feel their other half is neglacting them, for both neglected wives and neglected husbands.
Demographics
Over the 19th and 20th of April 2012 1,092 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 60.5% of the sample were female, 11.3% in their teens, 17.0% in their twenties, 28.4% in their thirties, 25.5% in their forties, 10.2% in their fifties, and 7.7% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. I’m not sure how unmarried people were supposed to answer this one, if at all.
I’m only guilty of number seven, although my excuse is just having a poor memory for everything!
There’s a bit of a difference between the sexes regarding not wanting to sleep together! Top for the men, but just 12th for the women…

Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
I remember one of the dates I went on we did get a computer-generated love compatibility horoscope done, but it was completely unable to cope with foreign names. I cannot remember what we did, or even what the outcome of it was, but I do remember thinking that paying 1,000 yen for it was a rip-off!
Talking of love compatibility horoscopes, here’s one I prepared earlier:

I’m not sure how good any of these moves are, as for my part I did the number one male action with my wife two or three times, although knowing her better now, she probably used a few of the female tricks below to manouvre me into the situation where I unwittingly had to make a move!

At JR Osaka station there is a woman announcer voice that describes in English where to stand, and the “two” in “Please form two lines” is strangely alluring to me. The accent is mostly Japanese with very little US or UK English influence, but the “two” comes out in an accent that sounds very much like from my home area, a cute “tchew”. I also used to work with a Japanese woman who pronunced the Japanese “fu” sound rather sweetly.

Here’s a fun survey from goo Ranking, looking at what flaws people think if they fixed they would be able to find a partner, for both women looking for a boyfriend and men looking for a girlfriend.

Thinking back to my own case, it was a combination of both having no self-confidence and not having the courage to make a move. There’s a few stories about that I could relate, but not in as public a venue as here! What managed to get me to overcome these flaws was getting my teeth fixed; I was still the same person afterwards, but perhaps I was more relaxed and less concerned about smiling afterwards?

Here’s an interesting survey from goo Ranking, looking at the reasons why people cannot make relationships last, for both men and women.
Demographics
Between the 17th and 18th of January 2012 1,048 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 61.6% of the sample were female, 12.3% in their teens, 15.6% in their twenties, 27.9% in their thirties, 25.8% in their forties, 9.5% in their fifties, and 8.9% in their sixties. “Wearing a cat on my head” is a wonderful metaphor that I’d never heard before – it reminds me of the book “The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat”, a book I read a long time ago but can heartily recommend. I’ve now looked up the phrase, and not suprisingly, I took the wrong meaning of the verb in the idiom 猫をかぶってしまう, neko wo kabutte shimau. There is an archaic meaning of “to be deceived”, so it would be the Japanese equivalent of “The cat hides his claws”, thus being hypocritical.
I’ll not give you my answers at they’d reveal more about me than I want you to know!

goo Ranking recently took a look at what’s so charming about short people, for both what women find attractive about short men and what men find attractive about short women.
Demographics
Over the 25th and 26th of November 2011 1,074 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 57.4% of the sample were female, 11.6% in their teens, 14.7% in their twenties, 26.9% in their thirties, 25.0% in their forties, 11.1% in their fifties, and 10.7% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
There’s quite a difference between the male and female answers, and male answers 11, 12, and 13 are not really very nice at all!
My wife always points out that taller foreign guys tend to have shorter than average Japanese girlfriends. However, on TV last night I saw this mismatched all-Japanese couple:

Wifey tells me that the main thing she wanted me to stop when we were dating was farting…
It’s interesting that it appears that women have more complaints, and complain more about the same things, regarding their boyfriends. Is spitting really that common on dates that it gets to be the fourth most popular issue?
