Painful to witness mutton dressed as lamb

goo Ranking did a nice pair of surveys recently, asking first what fashion when worn by over-thirty women can be painful to see, then giving over-thirty women their right to reply with what fashion items worn by us over-thirties can still look good.

Demographics

Between the 31st of May and 3rd of June 2013 1,069 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 50.1% of the sample were female, 24.8% in their teens, 24.9% in their twenties, 25.0% in their thirties, and 25.4% in their forties; there was no-one older than 49 in this sample. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. For the second ranking, it was only women over thirty who answered, so I presume that implies that the first question was for everyone else bar them?

I have it on good authority that underneath the mask is a 56 year-old maid:

What you wouldn’t let your Japanese boyfriend wear

goo Ranking recently surveyed their members to find out what items of fashion women would baulk at their boyfriends wearing or putting on.

Demographics

Over the 5th and 6th of September 2011 1,112 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 70.8% of the sample were female, 13.5% in their teens, 18.2% in their twenties, 28.1% in their thirties, 25.5% in their forties, 8.7% in their fifties, and 6.0% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. This survey was for the women only.

This is another one of these surveys that leaves me scratching my head as to the point; nail art and skirts on men are a very different statement to, say, a piercing or a tanktop. Here’s a photo from Flickr of someone violating numbers 2, 4, 12, 18 and 21 at least!

Summer fashion FAILs of Japanese women

Having done male summer fashion FAILs, here we go with the follow-up from goo Ranking on what Japanese men think are women’s summer fashion FAILs.

Demographics

Between the 21st and 23rd of June 2010 1,137 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 65.1% of the sample were female, 8.0% in their teens, 20.4% in their twenties, 31.2% in their thirties, 23.9% in their forties, 9.2% in their fifties, and 7.2 aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. In addition, this question was for males only.

Winter boots in summer in Japan

My fashion fail for women is wellies (sadly, no pics, only the above from gohsuket on flickr) – they seem relatively popular in both exceptionally loud patterns and boring old Barbour green, but in the hot weather they must be murder on the feet and a wonderful breeding ground for athlete’s foot, and of course with a short skirt they just look so unbalanced.

Furthermore, too many shoulder straps on show annoy me.

Summer fashion FAILs of Japanese men

It’s been a while since I’ve had a FAIL post, so here goes with a look at what Japanese females think are men’s summer fashion FAILs.

In addition, this question was for females only.

I don’t do any of these fashion FAILs, but my pet FAIL are Crocs regardless of the season, and Jesus sandals annoy me for some reason. I’m not really sure about number 12, lots of silver – is silver supposed to be trendy in this weather?
