Me sleepingHere’s another fun survey from goo Ranking, this one looking at what male actions women just can’t help think they look cute doing.

Demographics

Over the 6th and 7th of June 2011 1,148 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 50.6% of the sample were male, 12.1% in their teens, 16.9% in their twenties, 28.0% in their thirties, 25.4% in their forties, 9.7% in their fifties, and 7.9% aged sixty or older. I was going to post a picture to illustrate one of these images, but I didn’t feel comfortable with it… UPDATE: I found my wife had taken one to illustrate number 4…

Note that there is only 19 answers; I’ve not missed one out!

When affected cuteness affects men

With television and other media always playing up cuteness in those in their twenties or younger, goo Ranking decided to take a look at cute habits in girls that get overdone.

Demographics

Between the 23rd and 26th of March 2011 1,070 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-base questionnaire. 53.4% of the sample were female, 10.2% in their teens, 13.1% in their twenties, 24.7% in their thirties, 23.7% in their forties, 13.3% in their fifties, and 15.0% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. This survey was for the men only.

My pet hate is excessive talking through the nose, as they end up sounding like Donald Duck on helium. Pigeon-toed walking irritates me too:

Here’s someone not Japanese doing the duck mouth just a little too much…

Arrgh - duck mouth overload!

Your partner’s cutest actions

Here’s a slightly better survey than the earlier one, where this time goo Ranking looked at what actions by one’s girlfriend, wife make you think “You’re as cute as anything!”.

Demographics

Between the 23rd and 26th of April 2010 1,187 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-base questionnaire. 61.4% of the sample were female, 10.1% in their teens, 17.4% in their twenties, 30.9% in their thirties, 24.9% in their forties, 10.1% in their fifties, and 6.5% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. Only the men in the sample answered this question.

Hmm, I cannot really think of a suitable answer from my own experience! She doesn’t wear my clothes, and I always have to wake up 30 minutes before her on weekends, she doesn’t do the sleeves thing, and her running around the zoo produces more of feeling of happiness in me to see her relaxing for a bit. Furthermore, she always cops out with jars and bottles and gives them straight to me to open!

Showing off your coolness and cuteness in Japan

goo Ranking’s silliness for today is a look at what women do in the hope of being considered cute and men do for coolness.

Demographics

Between the 20th and 22nd of January 2010 1,071 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 51.1% of the sample were female, 19.9% in their teens, 29.5% in their twenties, 30.5% in their thirties, and 20.1% in their forties. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.

My attempts to look cool are limited to pulling a subtle wistful smile and appearing to be lost in thought trying to figure out the mysteries of the universe while all I’m actually doing is translating this silly survey. However, I’m probably giving more of an impression of being the train loony…

The 12= for men, paying by credit card all in one installment, refers to the standard credit card settlement method in Japan – for most cards you have to pay everything off at the end of the month, so if you want to spread the load you can ask to pay in multiple installments, so the store bills you once a month for the next few months. 11 for men, giving a coat to a crying girl, is a mystery to me, as is 24=, skiving off swimming lessons!

Strange but cute Japanese cat actions

Today is the Day of the Cat in Japan, since the 22nd of the 2nd month may be read as “nyan nyan nyan”, the Japanese equivalent of “meow meow meow”. So, to celebrate, goo Ranking looked at strange but cute cat actions.

Demographics

Between the 22nd and 26th of January 2009 1,071 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private online questionnaire. 51.8% of the sample were male, 6.9% in their teens, 14.3% in their twenties, 28.9% in their thirties, 27.8% in their forties, 11.3% in their fifties, and 10.8% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.

For reference, two years ago the cat survey was on cats’ cutest actions, without the strange clause.

If you want some cat kaomoji facemarks, Evoticon.net will surely meet your needs. ~(=^‥^)ノ◎~ (Cat with toilet paper)

Most of the animal shows on Japanese television have regular segments featuring cute but strange cats, so here’s three entertaining clips from YouTube:
