This is the first time iShare has featured on Silly Sunday, but this quick look at what Autumn 2010 3D movies people most want to see is just to tie in with today’s goo Ranking survey on 3D game series remakes.
Demographics
Between the 30th of September and 5th of October 2010 483 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 54.2% of the sample were male, 32.3% in their twenties, 33.3% in their thirties, and 34.4% in their forties.
Regular readers will know that I am not enamoured by 3D movies, so I was pleased to read that Harry Potter 7.1 will be 2D only, in the UK at least, due to the 3D remastering taking longer than planned to perform. Here’s hoping that they don’t get it finished in time for the Japanese release too!
Oh, and yes, the fifth movie Atashin-chi does have a stupidly-long title; that often seems to happen with cartoons over here.

This survey from iShare into enjoying a foreign holiday with a camera is rather appropriate as I’m currently on a foreign holiday business trip in Hawaii, as you can perhaps see from the photo below.
Demographics
Over the 14th and 15th of September 2010 2,468 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service who had had a foreign holiday completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 75.4% of the sample were male, 44.4% in their thirties, 44.5% in their forties, and 11.1% in their fifties.
I’m usually pretty hopeless at taking photos, both quantity and quality-wise, but hopefully this time at Hawaii I have redeemed myself!

This survey from iShare was educational for me, and I hope it will be educational for some of my readers who may be unaware of the Japanese names in this look at month names, in both English and classical Japanese.
Demographics
Between the 24th and 29th of September 2010 461 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.5% of the sample were male, 28.6% in their twenties, 30.6% in their thirties, and 40.8% in their forties.
In modern Japanese, the months are ridiculously easy to remember, being basically “Month 1″, “Month 2″, and so on up to “Month 12″, but before they adopted the Gregorian calendar there was a completely different set of names which I rarely see and could not name any of them at all. Note that although in Q1SQ I mention the English month, there’s not really a direct one-to-one correspondence as the old Japanese calendar was lunar-based, so they tended to repeat months here and there to stop things getting horrendously out of sync.

iShare recently conducted a survey that had a nice buzzword in the title, namely Yama (Mountain) Girls, a trend amongst young women to go hillwalking for the fashion as much as for the exercise. However, the headline was the extent of the involvement of the Yama Girls, and it turned out to be a rather ordinary look at mountaineering and hillwalking with a mobile phone instead.
Demographics
Betwen the 15th and 17th of September 2010 1,217 members of the CLUB BBQ who had gone mountaineering or hillwalking with a mobile phone completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 80.5% of the respondents were male, 5.8% in their twenties, 46.8% in their thirties, 34.3% in their forties, and 13.1% in their fifties.
In Q2, note that Mount Takao is within the Tokyo prefecture limits and a mere 599 metres high with a funicular railway, and the 931 metre-high Mount Rokko is within the Kobe city limits and also has two funiculars and a cable car up to the plateau, so they are in quite a different class from the 3776 metres of Mount Fuji!

There’s been a number of women-only questionnaires on iShare lately, so while I wait for them to redress the balance, here is another one for the ladies, a look at makeup.
Demographics
Between the 9th and 14th of September 2010 454 female members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 31.1% of the women were in their twenties, 29.7% in their thirties, and 39.2% in their forties.
Not having had any experience of applying makeup, I cannot directly comment on the survey, but given that my wife takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get her face together, it does seem like far too much bother, but then again she used to apply makeup for professional reasons.
In Q1 it would have been worthwhile to have a cross-reference against employment status to see how many people went to work without putting their warpaint on.

Here’s the follow-up to single guys with salaries of over 10 million yen, single guys with over 10 million yen in the bank, another rather long-winded title that looks much better and shorter in Japanese.
Demographics
Between the 10th and 13th of September 2010 1,150 single female members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service in full-time employement completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 21.7% of the sample were in their twenties, 39.1% in their thirties, and 39.1% in their forties. This looks like the same sample that answered the previous questionnaire, so a direct comparison can be made.
As with the previous survey, I don’t score many hits for looking like I have 10 million yen in the bank!
To me, someone with 10 million in the bank is either someone who has earned it by scrimping or saving, or someone who has inherited it. Looking at the answers, though, I don’t really understand what image the women who answered have – I cannot really picture someone who matches the top choices.

Here’s an interesting and lengthy look by iShare at single guys with salaries of over 10 million yen, a rather long-winded title that looks much better and shorter in Japanese. There will be a follow-up later this week or next on single guys with over 10 million yen in the bank!
At one point I was really close to 10 million yen a year, but then the economy collapsed about four years ago and my employer cut their bonus payments and got tighter regarding benefits.
Looking down the list, I don’t think I fit any of the highest voted images for any of the questions!

The latest survey from iShare took a look at the matter of punches, in particular hitting children and adults, the results of which were a shock to my namby-pamby western liberal attitudes.
Research results
Between the 2nd and 7th of September 2010, 475 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 54.7% of the sample were male, 30.7% in their twenties, 31.4% in their thirties, and 37.9% in their forties.
Although corporal punishment is banned in Japanese schools, from what I hear teachers still occasionally dish out punishment, and in sports clubs there seems to be a lot of hazing, from over-enthusiastic cheerleading to deaths in sumo stables.
Some of the stories about memories of being hit were as follows: “My gentle father getting mad and beating me for the first time”, “I was playing with matches and nearly set something on fire, so after getting hit I remember reflecting long and hard”, “I never got hit by my parents, so it was a shock the first time my friends hit me”, “I did something that wasn’t sensible and got hit by a teacher”, and “I skived off doing a kanji drill homework and got detention until past 7 pm. I got curious about what the elementary school was like at night, so exploring around the school. I was found by my homeroom teacher who slapped my cheek and gave me a noogie. He was a good teacher.”

If there’s one thing Japanese drivers hate, it’s fags and other rubbish being tossed out of car windows, according to this survey from iShare into driving manners.
You’ll notice that there are a couple of questions regarding insurance. This is because the survey was conducted in conjunction with American Home and their car insurance arm, American Home Direct.
Demographics
On the 6th of September 2010 1,067 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-base questionnaire. All of the respondents had free use of a car that they drove at least once a week. 85.0% of the sample were male, 3.0% in their twenties, 38.5% in their thirties, 44.0% in their forties, and 14.5% in their fifties.
The demographics are quite different from the usual CLUB BBQ ones – the male:female split is usually closer to 50:50, and the twenties age group around 30%, indicating that younger and female ownership of cars is pretty low.
My worst manners in others is poor indicating, although my own driving manners are perfect. People who dangle their hand holding a ciggie out the window irrationally annoy me too. Being driven by someone who doesn’t anticipate is my way of spotting a useless driver.

From my point of view, honeymoons are all part of getting married, so I cannot understand why this survey from iShare into honeymoons found that just a third of unmarried Japanese thought a honeymoon was essential.
Demographics
Between the 20th and 25th of August 2010 450 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 54.4% of the sample were male, 29.8% in their twenties, 33.8% in their thirties, and 36.4% in their forties.
On the other hand, given the lack of holidays, or at least the combination of both a reluctance to take and to grant holidays in Japan, I can understand some of the lack of enthusiasm for honeymoons. Although most of the married people I know did take honeymoons, a number of them took them a few weeks to a few months after the ceremony.
Should couples go on honeymoon?
