I cannot really think of a longer headline that is not excessively blatant linkbait, so I’ll leave that as the simple title for a survey from iShare into another demographic that they may well have just made up especially for this survey, which had the full title of modern women’s healing.
Demographics
Over the 13th and 14th of December 2010 1,149 female members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 11.7% of the sample were in their twenties, 54.8% in their thirties, and 33.4% in their forties.
Edison once said that genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration; in Japan it is the ninety-nine percent perspiration that is often more valued, regardless of the presence or absence of any associated genius or inspiration. A gambaru girl is the sort of woman who is always busy around the house or the office, so this survey looks at what they do or would like to do to unwind. Read the rest of this entry »
I’m back from my holidays (which did not include any skiing) to report on a survey from iShare on the dangers of skiing.
Demographics
Over the 30th of November and the 1st of December 2010 1,476 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 62.7% of the sample were male, 20.0% in their twenties, 24.5% in their thirties, 31.1% in their forties, and 24.4% in their fifties. Note that the ski season would have barely started in Japan at the time of the survey, and only a few remote locations would have been open.
I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a question about skiing overseas; although the skiing in Japan is very good, I would have liked to know how many people had gone on foreign skiing holidays.
Last time I went skiing was an overnight work trip back in Scotland, and I got horrendous sunburn as no-one told me that the UV reflects off the snow and hits your face from all angles! Read the rest of this entry »
Over the 27th and 28th of October 2010 1,856 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service in full-time employment and with a driving license completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 72.6% of the sample were male, 8.2% were in their twenties, 49.9% in their thirties, and 41.8% in their forties.
In Q10, not surprisingly Ken Watanabe (Last Samurai, Inception, etc) comes first – he’s the Japanese star I’d most like to meet.
Comparing with the woman’s results, for the blood type question the O and A percentages are basically reversed. Disappointly, however, there is no answer “I just don’t care” for that one. However, when it comes to real matters like work-life balance, for both strong and cool men and strong and cool women the figures were very similar. It might be interesting to have a follow-on questionnaire on the differences between images of the two sexes. Read the rest of this entry »
Between the 8th and 11th of November 2010 636 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 54.4% of the sample were male, 23.6% in their twenties, 30.2% in their thirties, and 46.2% in their forties.
When asked why they chose their answers for Q2, computers were cited as being usable for both work and play, and just being something people cannot lead their lives without. Mobile phones were indispensible and a part of life, television was something watched every day and as they’d bought a TV with a built-in hard disk their viewing frequency had increased. For white goods, the one answer chosen was for air conditioning, for all the hard work it put in over the summer. Read the rest of this entry »
Over the 18th and 19th of October 2010 2,122 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service in full-time employment and with a driving license completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 84.9% of the sample were male, 4.1% were in their twenties, 49.2% in their thirties, and 46.7% in their forties.
I find it interesting to note that in Q16, the top two strong and cool women both used to be men in Takarazuka Theatre, as was the woman in sixth place.
Oh, and don’t ask me to explain the fashion styles in Q17 any further as I haven’t a clue what they are. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m going to be a bit busy tomorrow, so I’ll stretch this one out over two days. I’m not really sure I can picture a strong and cool Japanese woman right now… except maybe my wife – see part two for why! Read the rest of this entry »
A recent survey from iShare took a look at a survey entitled expectations for estate agency web sites, but the actual survey was a bit of a rambling look at issues surrounding 3D, but without too clear an image of what exactly 3D was.
Demographics
Between the 21st and 25th of October 2010 840 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service who were in full-time regular employment and wanted to buy their own home completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 82.3% of the sample were male, 62.7% of the sample were in their thirties, and 37.3% in their forties.
The survey also notes that on the 1st of November 2010 Sumitomo Forestry opened a new site, BF Madori (room layout) DESIGNER, that allows you to design your own home then walk through it using a virtual reality application.
This second half of the survey plays fast and loose with 3D, as it covers everything from the current fad for movies and videos in 3D down to Google Street View and virtual reality applications on the web. With one in five having played 3D games according to Q5SQ2, surely that covers even just standard first-person shooters? Read the rest of this entry »

There is quite a number of books and sites on interesting or curious madori, the Japanese word for room layouts. I always check the layout of accomodation when we get leaflets, so I do find it difficult to believe that there is nearly a quarter who never do! Here’s a site reviewing a book of strange rooms. After looking at if people who quit stayed smoke-free due to the recent massive tax hike, here we have iShare looking at the overall population to see who quit smoking due to the price rise. As most people predicted, the long-overdue price rise wasn’t matched by a similar reduction in smoking rates.
Demographics
Between the 4th and 8th of November 2010 661 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 56.1% of the sample were male, 25.6% in their twenties, 33.4% in their thirties, and 41.0% in their forties.
One slight problem with the data here is that the smoking population at 21.3% of men and 8.3% of women is about half of the usually-accepted figures, although I don’t know why this sample would differ from the general population. Read the rest of this entry »
Here is my first “best of 2010″ surveys, a look by iShare at internet slang in 2010. Not all the words are from 2010, in fact most of them are a bit older, but it is the awareness that is being investigated in this survey.
Demographics
Between the 19th and 22nd of October 2010 665 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 54.0% of the sample were male, 26.9% in their twenties, 35.0% in their thirties, and 38.0% in their forties.
That was a lot of fun to translate, and I learnt a bit tonight! If I have made a few mistakes along the way, please let me know.
