Do you plan to buy a home bakery this year? graph of japanese statisticsSitting around the house feeling miserable about the earthquake, tsunami and radiation leaks is not very productive, so I’ll try to get back into the swing of things with a survey from goo Research, reported on by japan.internet.com, into home appliances, their eighth in a regular series of such surveys.

Demographics

Between the 22nd and 25th of February 2011 1,066 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.7% of the sample were male, 16.0% in their teens, 18.4% in their twenties, 21.7% in their thirties, 16.3% in their forties, 15.7% in their fifties, and 11.9% aged sixty or older.

The question about a home bakery refers in part to the famous hit product from last year, Sanyo’s SPM-RB1000, or the GOPAN, a bread maker that uses rice, and will even mill the rice into flour before starting cooking. Panasonic’s range of conventional bread makers are supposed to be pretty good too.

Also note that I translated the third in the series last January and the seventh last November.

Computers and digital TVs most likely to lead to warranty claims

The seventh regular survey by goo Research into home electrical appliances, reported on by japan.internet.com, revealed surprising statistics regarding which appliances are likely to lead to warranty claims.

Demographics

Between the 28th of October and the 2nd of November 2010 1,034 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 53.3% of the sample were male, 16.2% in their teens, 18.0% in their twenties, 21.5% in their thirties, 16.1% in their forties, 16.2% in their fifties, and 12.2% aged sixty or older.

This survey backs up the results from last week’s look at digital TV preparations that showed that digital televisions have overtaken analogue as the analogue switch-off nears. However, I’m not sure what the seven people from Q2 are doing buying an analogue television within the last month!

Also note that I translated the third in the series in January.

Japanese domestic appliances

Recently there was a rather unfocused article by japan.internet.com on a survey conducted by goo Research into home electrical appliances that didn’t really reveal anything interesting, so pleae feel free to browse to another page… This is apparently the third in a series of regular surveys on the topic.

Demographics

If you’re still here, I’ll inform you that between the 21st and 25th of December 2009 1,076 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 53.2% of the sample were male, 16.2% in their teens, 18.1% in their twenties, 21.4% in their thirties, 16.4% in their forties, 15.8% in their fifties, and 12.2% aged sixty or older.

The biggest surprise in Q1 is that although 69.9% have a portable computer (although previous surveys have shown that they don’t tend to get ported much), just 7.0% have a netbook. On the other hand, it’s not really a surprise since computers don’t get carried around there’s no motivation to get a lighter netbook.

Furthermore, the selection of ETC electronic toll payment devices seems a bit of stretch as a domestic appliance…
