Dude, that’s a lousy privacy policy! LOL. I can’t believe you used some company to generate it. Your blogs are sooo thoughtful and you (evidently) put so little thought into a privacy (!) policy — which is supposed to generate assurance among readers. haha.

First, go here for some basic tips:
    http://www.uoguelph.ca/secretariat/readpolicy/

But really, take out the bad grammar and sentences that end with “and” (!). Second, never tell people that you will use their information for “unanticipated” uses. That’s bad policy and I can’t believe the company put that in their template. And what’s up with the “if you don’t want to receive email from us” line? You didn’t even say you were going to send any and then strangely this sentence cropped.

Obviously, I admire your site, otherwise I wouldn’t bother commenting here. But come on: pick a few sensible things to say in a policy and then…uh, say them. You don’t need a ‘generator’ for this.

How long do you retain your logs? Are search terms private? Those are the sorts of things that assure visitors. Not “If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should check back at our Web site periodically.” Uh, you mean I have to do work to protect my info on your server? I don’t think so Joe.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the feedback, but as I didn’t bother reading the policy myself, I didn’t expect anyone else to either!

I’ve now redone it with a WordPress plugin, which is better I hope.

Stuff about search terms, retaining logs, etc, I’ll think about adding and see what is the best way to approach it. Thanks for all the links!
