goo Research, in conjunction with President Family magazine, recently conducted a survey into stress in the family, which will feature in the January 2011 edition of said President Family magazine. The printed edition should feature much more information than in this short excerpt, of course.
Demographics
1,006 women in their forties with children who were members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. No further demographic information was provided.
I can identify with the husband being the main source of stress… Second would have to be our upstairs neighbours, or at least our thin ceiling. Read the rest of this entry »
A recent survey from iShare took a look at a survey entitled expectations for estate agency web sites, but the actual survey was a bit of a rambling look at issues surrounding 3D, but without too clear an image of what exactly 3D was.
Demographics
Between the 21st and 25th of October 2010 840 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service who were in full-time regular employment and wanted to buy their own home completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 82.3% of the sample were male, 62.7% of the sample were in their thirties, and 37.3% in their forties.
The survey also notes that on the 1st of November 2010 Sumitomo Forestry opened a new site, BF Madori (room layout) DESIGNER, that allows you to design your own home then walk through it using a virtual reality application.
This second half of the survey plays fast and loose with 3D, as it covers everything from the current fad for movies and videos in 3D down to Google Street View and virtual reality applications on the web. With one in five having played 3D games according to Q5SQ2, surely that covers even just standard first-person shooters? Read the rest of this entry »

There is quite a number of books and sites on interesting or curious madori, the Japanese word for room layouts. I always check the layout of accomodation when we get leaflets, so I do find it difficult to believe that there is nearly a quarter who never do! Here’s a site reviewing a book of strange rooms. DIMSDRIVE Research recently reported on a survey from the start of the year into taking lessons, excluding formal education.
Demographics
Between the 31st of March and the 15th of April 2010 7,833 members of the DIMSDRIVE Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.9% of the sample were male, 1.1% in their teens, 12.3% in their twenties, 32.6% in their thirties, 30.7% in their forties, 16.0% in their fifties, and 7.3% aged sixty or older.
I’m currently not studying anything, although I’d like to go to Go classes, as I used to play quite often when I was a kid. My wife recommends singing lessons, but I fear my tone deafness would try the patience of any teacher! Read the rest of this entry »
After looking at if people who quit stayed smoke-free due to the recent massive tax hike, here we have iShare looking at the overall population to see who quit smoking due to the price rise. As most people predicted, the long-overdue price rise wasn’t matched by a similar reduction in smoking rates.
Demographics
Between the 4th and 8th of November 2010 661 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 56.1% of the sample were male, 25.6% in their twenties, 33.4% in their thirties, and 41.0% in their forties.
One slight problem with the data here is that the smoking population at 21.3% of men and 8.3% of women is about half of the usually-accepted figures, although I don’t know why this sample would differ from the general population. Read the rest of this entry »
Having just ordered my New Year postcards today, it seems timely to translate this survey from goo Ranking into New Year postcard disappointments.
Demographics
Over the 21st and 22nd of October 2010 1,075 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 66.3% of the sample were female, 9.9% in their teens, 18.1% in their twenties, 30.9% in their thirties, 24.7% in their forties, 8.8% in their fifties, and 7.5% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
My postcards this year will be Rilakkuma – we were going to do Miffy cards, which would be appropriate given that next year’s Chinese horoscope sign is the rabbit, but the discount coupon we had had expired. Read the rest of this entry »
Here is my first “best of 2010″ surveys, a look by iShare at internet slang in 2010. Not all the words are from 2010, in fact most of them are a bit older, but it is the awareness that is being investigated in this survey.
Demographics
Between the 19th and 22nd of October 2010 665 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 54.0% of the sample were male, 26.9% in their twenties, 35.0% in their thirties, and 38.0% in their forties.
That was a lot of fun to translate, and I learnt a bit tonight! If I have made a few mistakes along the way, please let me know.
Macromill Research recently took a look at the winter dinner table to see what families gather around the table to eat.
Demographics
Over the 17th and 18th of November 2010 500 married members of the Macromill monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. The sample was 50:50 male and female, and 25.0% in their twenties, 25.0% in their thirties, 25.0% in their forties, and 25.0% aged fifty or older.
I find these big pot meals too much bother when I go out with colleagues from work, especially as they are not terribly veggie-friendly! At home we’ve got an earthenware pot or nabe, but we’ve never actually used it. Standard curry or stew from a pan is good enough for me.

Just a quick note for smartphone owners – I’ve added a mobile-friendly low-bandwidth plugin to the site, so if you visit with your mobile browser the site should look much better than before. I went to a mobile phone shop this evening after work and surfed here on a demo Xperia, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked!
Between the 1st and 11th of October 2010 13,925 members of the goo Research monitor panel who were guardians of children of elementary school age completed a private internet-based questionnaire. No demographic information on the children was supplied, but the adults were 54.4% female, 1.1% in their twenties, 40.8% in their thirties, 53.2% in their forties, and 4.8% aged fifty or older. It is also not clear how guardians with multiple children completed the survey.
At least most of the children seem to be well-policed regarding their internet use, with the majority spending less than an hour online a week, and email and chat being less frequent activities. Read the rest of this entry »
