Or your Japanese boyfriend for that matter, the subject of a recent goo Ranking survey into the moments when people realise as they have a dog they don’t need a partner.
Demographics
Between the 18th and 21st of December 2009 1,077 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 51.0% of the sample were female, 8.7% in their teens, 15.3% in their twenties, 27.0% in their thirties, 27.8% in their forties, 11.9% in their fifties, and 9.3% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
Not being a dog person, I cannot relate to the question, although I can relate to answers number… heck, just about all of them. However, number 18 is a little bit…

goo Ranking have another fun FAIL survey, this time looking at what personal grooming in the opposite sex takes you aback, for men looking at women and women looking at men.

Palm reading is, of course, a load of nonsense based around cold reading, but regardless I felt this recent survey from goo Ranking looking at what lines people don’t want to have on their palms was worth translating just for the names of some of the lines that I suspect might have been made up just for the sake of the survey…

I find it quite amusing that the bottom of the list is the pervy line, perhaps there ought to be a follow-up survey on what lines people wish they had. The original Japanese article describes exactly where each line can be found should you really wish to check your own hand.
The photo to the right is used with kind permission from Lee at Tokyo Times. It shows a street palm reader – in the evenings around most major stations you can usually find one or two of them plying their trade. Please click through to the original posting to see the image full size.

First, what is moe? I’d like to explain in my own words, but I’d probably irritate half my readership, so instead here is a casual essay and a more formal look at what it means.
A fad at the moment is sticking cute cartoon girls on everything, so this quicky from goo Ranking looked at to what items they couldn’t see the need for the addition of moe characters.
Demographics
Between the 23rd and 26th of October 2009 1,162 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 62.9% of the sample were female, 10.5% in their teens, 20.7% in their twenties, 30.8% in their thirties, 21.9% in their forties, 9.0% in their fifties, and 7.0% aged sixty or older.
A moe toolbox will go well with your ita-sha, and as for a moe CV book, perhaps only necessary if you wanted a job at a maid cafe.

Not me personally, but the members of the goo Research monitor group reported on their worst-ever kiss, for both women and men.
Demographics
Between the 18th and 24th of September 2009 1,156 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 63.8% of the sample were female, 10.1% in their teens, 20.8% in their twenties, 30.0% in their thirties, 23.4% in their forties, 9.3% in their fifties, and 6.4% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. This does seem like a rather unusual demographic spread for goo Research.
Luckily I haven’t suffered from many on the list, although we once got chased off from beside a vending machine by someone who wanted to use it…

Today’s bit of fun from goo Ranking looks at the moment you realise someone you’ve got your eye on is not girlfriend or boyfriend material, for both men looking at women and women looking at men.

Only time for a quicky today from goo Ranking, this time looking at what one looks back on with an embarrassed laugh.
Demographics
Between the 20th and 22nd of August 2009 1,077 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private online questionnaire. 51.1% of the sample were male, 8.4% in their teens, 14.2% in their twenties, 26.7% in their thirties, 28.2% in their forties, 11.1% in their fifties, and 11.2% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
Number one seems a bit of a contradiction, as being completely and utterly out of it by definition means that one cannot recall the incident! If I think about it, I can recall a number of incidents that would fit the bill for this survey, but as they’re embarrassing, I’m not telling you what they are!

Here’s a fun survey from goo Ranking, looking at what white lies people can’t help telling to members of the opposite sex for both women lying to men and men lying to women.
Demographics
Between the 20th and 22nd of August 2009 1,077 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private online questionnaire. 51.1% of the sample were male, 8.4% in their teens, 14.2% in their twenties, 26.7% in their thirties, 28.2% in their forties, 11.1% in their fifties, and 11.2% aged sixty or older. goo Ranking recently took a look at what people would want to check out the first time they visited their partner’s room, for both women checking out their boyfriends and men checking out their girlfriends.
It is interesting to note that many of the answers seem to centre around checking out that your partner is not already attached – I don’t really know what the motivation for that is.
I also haven’t a clue what’s behind sniffing your partner’s pillow, and I don’t really think I want to know!
As a cross-reference, perhaps, last year I looked at scary home life of friends of the opposite sex.

No, not that kind of bust-up, but another kind, a 和製英語, wasei-eigo, Japanese English term that means, well, it should be obvious once you read this ranking survey from goo Ranking.
Demographics
Between the 21st and 24th of July 2009 1,026 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private online questionnaire. 48.2% of the sample were male, 8.0% in their teens, 14.6% in their twenties, 28.8% in their thirties, 26.0% in their forties, 12.5% in their fifties, and 10.1% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. This question was naturally for the ladies only…
I think I’ll give commenting on the survey a miss and just get straight into it.
