More bloody Japanese tourists

I did this topic a few years ago, so here is an update from goo Ranking into what kinds of Japanese tourist-like behaviour people find themselves doing at foreign destinations.

Demographics

Over the 8th and 9th of June 2012 1,092 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 60.1% of the sample were female, 10.8% in their teens, 15.8% in their twenties, 28.9% in their thirties, 26.3% in their forties, 10.2% in their fifties, and 8.0% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.

Birds of a Feather

My wife does the photos (and videos) everywhere, seeing the sights through the viewfinder, which I do find awfully pointless. From the two tours I’ve been on, the biggest single surprise to me was rather than number 5, doing everything in a group, was the unwillingness to do things on one’s own, instead relying on the guide to do everything.

What annoys Japanese in the office in summer

With the temperature hovering around 35 degrees Celcius outside, and Cool Biz meaning that it’s about 28 degrees Celcius inside the typical office, tempers are bound to be frayed, so this survey from goo Ranking looked at what aspects of their co-workers annoyed people in the office in summer.

I’m probably guilty of causing the first (or more correctly number 16), as I have some scented underarm deodorant in the office, so I’m sure my colleagues at least notice it! I also do tend to get a bit shivery when the air conditioner is over-strong. Number 10 annoys me, although the one person who excessively faps his fan at least does work.

The worst things about Japanese public toilets

goo Ranking decided to have a look inside Japan’s public toilets and find out what annoys people when they use the facilities.

I’m very sensitive when it comes to public toilets, so most of these below can cause me to abort my mission. American toilets with the 30 centimetres of free space around floor-level is another pet hate.

As the list below might be a bit traumatic, to calm you down here is Hello Kitty:

Feeling a neglected spouse

A nice and cheery survey today from goo Ranking, looking at when spouses feel their other half is neglacting them, for both neglected wives and neglected husbands.

Demographics

Over the 19th and 20th of April 2012 1,092 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 60.5% of the sample were female, 11.3% in their teens, 17.0% in their twenties, 28.4% in their thirties, 25.5% in their forties, 10.2% in their fifties, and 7.7% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample. I’m not sure how unmarried people were supposed to answer this one, if at all.

I’m only guilty of number seven, although my excuse is just having a poor memory for everything!

There’s a bit of a difference between the sexes regarding not wanting to sleep together! Top for the men, but just 12th for the women…

Japan’s thirty hardest emoticons

If you don’t have a Japanese font installed this survey will be impossible to understand; I do, yet I can barely work out some of these difficult to picture emoji.

I can picture just a few of them, but I’ll have to add them all to another site of mine, Evoticon.net.

You know a manga series is coming to an end when…

Sorry for the silence (and the dead web site!) for a week, but I was away on business. However, I’m back with a fine survey from goo Ranking looking at what makes people think their long-running manga comic series is coming to an end.

As I don’t read manga, I don’t really know how true these all are, but I’d like to see a similar list for when variety shows appear to be running out of steam. I’ve noticed in these cases they usually have a format change that focuses even more on celebrities than they normally do, but whether this is because they are wanting to just see how much of a budget they can blow, or if they genuinely believe that more celebs equals more viewers, I do not know!

Oh, and here’s people talking about their worst manga endings.

Fathers Day FAIL

It’s Fathers Day today in Japan at least, so to celebrate let’s look at a survey from goo Ranking into Fathers Day failures.

My parents don’t believe in either day – I’ve only ever once sent my mother flowers that I won in a prize draw at a supermarket. However, my parents-in-law do, and for reasons I’ll not really go into, we have to buy both a present on each of the days…

Anyway, beer seems the simplest choice…

What Japanese do after they get a new boyfriend or girlfriend

goo Ranking’s slightly sideways looks at love this week focuses on what people end up doing after they get a new boyfriend or girlfriend, for both women and men.

I remember one of the dates I went on we did get a computer-generated love compatibility horoscope done, but it was completely unable to cope with foreign names. I cannot remember what we did, or even what the outcome of it was, but I do remember thinking that paying 1,000 yen for it was a rip-off!

Talking of love compatibility horoscopes, here’s one I prepared earlier:

What’s so great about older Japanese women?

Norika FujiwaraIn Japan, in common with many other countries in the world, I suppose, men tend to prefer women a few years younger than themselves. However, this survey from goo Ranking looked at what are the good things about having an older girlfriend. You may remember that last week we looked at the charms of a toyboy.

This question was for the men only.

I’ve added a picture of many foreigners’ favourite older woman, Norika Fujiwara. She’s just broken up with her boyfriend, so she’s on the market again, guys!
