Mobile Marketing Data Labo recently conducted a survey looking at mobile phone carriers, focusing on the big three in Japan, docomo, au and SoftBank, who have over 95% of the market between them.
Demographics
Between the 31st of May and 5th of June 2013 1,200 smartphone-using members of the MMD Labo monitor panel completed a private internet-based questionnaire. The sample contained 400 people who used each of the main three carriers, docomo, au and SoftBank, but further demographics were not presented.
I agree that SoftBank’s image really has improved recently; MMD Labo have previously shown that SoftBank is the fastest 4G carrier, so this survey shows that the message is getting through to the general public, and, of course, having Shinji Kagawa helping out doesn’t hurt – note that the ring-blowing beluga whale is Shinji’s father:
Neo Marketing recently conducted a survey, reported on by japan.internet.com, into seniors and cars, targeting the over 60 age group.
Demographics
Between the 16th and 20th of May 2013 500 male and female car licence holders between the ages of 60 and 79 years old completed a private internet-based questionnaire. The respondents were drawn from Neo Marketing’s monitor panel, presumably.
I think the Daihatsu system (Toyota also has the same feature?) has an excellent feature that detects trying to run over a curb or block when starting to move, to assist people who would otherwise mash the wrong pedal and drive through a shop window and other such accidents that we often hear of.
I don’t like many of the collision avoidance advertisements, though, as they seem to suggest that one doesn’t really need to pay much attention when driving. Read the rest of this entry »
Over the 4th and 5th of April 2013 1,101 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 50.6% of the sample were male, 23.3% in their teens, 25.2% in their twenties, 25.5% in their thirties, and 26.1% in their forties; there was no-one older than 49 in this sample. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.
Here’s a date, it appears, at a game arcade (or game centre, as they are called in Japan):
I went to them quite a bit while dating, in particular to play the crane games for cuddly toys!
I also don’t find the herb garden too surprising myself – I in fact proposed at one! I’m trying to work out, though, why people would take someone on a date to their school – I think the wording implies after graduation; I suppose if it was a university there may be something interesting to see on campus, but just a plain school..? Takii Seeds and Seedlings, in order to promote their sales of vegetable and fruit seedlings, I presume, conducted a survey into veggie smoothies.
Demographics
Between the 15th and 17th of May 2013 206 women aged between 20 and 49 years old completed an internet-based questionnaire. Details on how the sample was chosen was not presented, however.
I used to often drink a smoothie at a restaurant I often went to, as it included it within their set course, but then they changed the menu and it stopped coming out. Making my own smoothie seems like far too much hassle, however! Read the rest of this entry »
Between the 20th and 23rd of May 2013 1,062 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 53.7% of the sample were male, 13.9% in their teens, 15.9% in their twenties, 21.6% in their thirties, 16.7% in their forties, and 31.9% aged fifty or older.
My primary access is from a computer too, although my smartphone usage is catching up. Read the rest of this entry »
Between the 13th and 15th of May 2013 1,090 mobile phone (including smartphone) using members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private mobile internet-based questionnaire. 57.0% of the sample were female, 1.9% in their teens, 19.1% in their twenties, 36.7% in their thirties, 28.8% in their forties, and 13.5% aged fifty or older.
I’m in the never even accessed category; the survey was, I believe, focused on physical goods, not services, so buying from an App Store was not counted. Read the rest of this entry »
A rather controversial headline, but that’s the message I think this survey from Ginza HS Clinic (not surprisingly, a hair restoration clinic), conducted in conjunction with Rakuten Research, into balding and mental health.
Demographics
During the month of April 2013 400 male members of the Rakutan Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. The sample consisted of 200 men who self-identified as going bald and 200 who had a full head of hair. Furthermore, 25.0% of each group were in their twenties, 25.0% in their thirties, 25.0% in their forties, and 25.0% in their fifties.
In the article, written by the PR team at the Ginza HS Clinic, they definitely wanted to give the impression that going bald made one effeminate, with Q2 being described as such, illustrating, they said, that going bald increased the use of girly beauty products. However, I thought that male-pattern baldness (this type is highlighted in the article) was due to an excess of testosterone, a point on which the literature seems to back me up. I was going to post an advert for shampoo that seemed rather dubious, with four suited men bursting in on a guy having a bath, but I couldn’t find it. Instead I came across this new-to-me advert for medicated shampoo.
I really should find more cheery topics for Sundays, but perhaps more cheery might imply less interesting? Today’s blues from goo Ranking was the moments that people think “My marriageable age has passed!”, for both women and men.
Demographics
Over the 4th and 5th of April 2013 1,101 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 50.6% of the sample were male, 23.3% in their teens, 25.2% in their twenties, 25.5% in their thirties, and 26.1% in their forties; there was no-one older than 49 in this sample. Looking at the male list as one who got married a bit later in life (aged 36), I can certainly identify with number one and the second number five.
Between the 16th and 18th of May 2013 400 existing docomo mobile phone or smartphone customers who were investigating changing phones some time this year completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 200 people in the survey used Android smartphones, and 200 used feature phones.
I think I’ll give this summer’s models a miss. Almost everything is 5-inch screens, which is far too large for my pockets! Read the rest of this entry »
