Strong and cool Japanese women: part 2 of 2

How many lovers will a strong and cool Japanese woman have? graph of japanese statisticsA recent survey from iShare took a look at strong and cool Japanese women, a follow-on from looks at guys earning more than 10 million yen and guys with more than 10 million in the bank. They’ll be a look at strong and cool men later this week.

Demographics

Over the 18th and 19th of October 2010 2,122 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service in full-time employment and with a driving license completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 84.9% of the sample were male, 4.1% were in their twenties, 49.2% in their thirties, and 46.7% in their forties.

I find it interesting to note that in Q16, the top two strong and cool women both used to be men in Takarazuka Theatre, as was the woman in sixth place.

Oh, and don’t ask me to explain the fashion styles in Q17 any further as I haven’t a clue what they are.

Strong and cool Japanese women: part 1 of 2

A strong and cool Japanese woman's work-life balance is? graph of japanese statisticsA recent survey from iShare took a look at strong and cool Japanese women, a follow-on from looks at guys earning more than 10 million yen and guys with more than 10 million in the bank. They’ll be a look at strong and cool men later this week.

I’m going to be a bit busy tomorrow, so I’ll stretch this one out over two days. I’m not really sure I can picture a strong and cool Japanese woman right now… except maybe my wife – see part two for why!

3D in estate agency web sites and elsewhere: part 2 of 2

Would you like a 3D room layout of property you were looking at? graph of japanese statisticsA recent survey from iShare took a look at a survey entitled expectations for estate agency web sites, but the actual survey was a bit of a rambling look at issues surrounding 3D, but without too clear an image of what exactly 3D was.

Demographics

Between the 21st and 25th of October 2010 840 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service who were in full-time regular employment and wanted to buy their own home completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 82.3% of the sample were male, 62.7% of the sample were in their thirties, and 37.3% in their forties.

The survey also notes that on the 1st of November 2010 Sumitomo Forestry opened a new site, BF Madori (room layout) DESIGNER, that allows you to design your own home then walk through it using a virtual reality application.

This second half of the survey plays fast and loose with 3D, as it covers everything from the current fad for movies and videos in 3D down to Google Street View and virtual reality applications on the web. With one in five having played 3D games according to Q5SQ2, surely that covers even just standard first-person shooters?

3D in estate agency web sites and elsewhere: part 1 of 2

When you look at property information do you check the room layout? graph of japanese statisticsA recent survey from iShare took a look at a survey entitled expectations for estate agency web sites, but the actual survey was a bit of a rambling look at issues surrounding 3D, but without too clear an image of what exactly 3D was.

There is quite a number of books and sites on interesting or curious madori, the Japanese word for room layouts. I always check the layout of accomodation when we get leaflets, so I do find it difficult to believe that there is nearly a quarter who never do! Here’s a site reviewing a book of strange rooms.

Lessons: English, yoga and dance most popular

Are you currently taking lessons, attending a school, etc? graph of japanese statisticsDIMSDRIVE Research recently reported on a survey from the start of the year into taking lessons, excluding formal education.

Demographics

Between the 31st of March and the 15th of April 2010 7,833 members of the DIMSDRIVE Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.9% of the sample were male, 1.1% in their teens, 12.3% in their twenties, 32.6% in their thirties, 30.7% in their forties, 16.0% in their fifties, and 7.3% aged sixty or older.

I’m currently not studying anything, although I’d like to go to Go classes, as I used to play quite often when I was a kid. My wife recommends singing lessons, but I fear my tone deafness would try the patience of any teacher!

33% price rise, but only 8% quit smoking

Did you quit or cut down smoking after the price rise? graph of japanese statisticsAfter looking at if people who quit stayed smoke-free due to the recent massive tax hike, here we have iShare looking at the overall population to see who quit smoking due to the price rise. As most people predicted, the long-overdue price rise wasn’t matched by a similar reduction in smoking rates.

Demographics

Between the 4th and 8th of November 2010 661 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 56.1% of the sample were male, 25.6% in their twenties, 33.4% in their thirties, and 41.0% in their forties.

One slight problem with the data here is that the smoking population at 21.3% of men and 8.3% of women is about half of the usually-accepted figures, although I don’t know why this sample would differ from the general population.

New year postcard nengajou disappointment

Having just ordered my New Year postcards today, it seems timely to translate this survey from goo Ranking into New Year postcard disappointments.

Demographics

Over the 21st and 22nd of October 2010 1,075 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 66.3% of the sample were female, 9.9% in their teens, 18.1% in their twenties, 30.9% in their thirties, 24.7% in their forties, 8.8% in their fifties, and 7.5% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.

My postcards this year will be Rilakkuma – we were going to do Miffy cards, which would be appropriate given that next year’s Chinese horoscope sign is the rabbit, but the discount coupon we had had expired.

The winter dinner table in Japan

Macromill Research recently took a look at the winter dinner table to see what families gather around the table to eat.

Demographics

Over the 17th and 18th of November 2010 500 married members of the Macromill monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. The sample was 50:50 male and female, and 25.0% in their twenties, 25.0% in their thirties, 25.0% in their forties, and 25.0% aged fifty or older.

I find these big pot meals too much bother when I go out with colleagues from work, especially as they are not terribly veggie-friendly! At home we’ve got an earthenware pot or nabe, but we’ve never actually used it. Standard curry or stew from a pan is good enough for me.

And here’s a video of dog nabe.

Had enough of your eco lifestyle?

Do you tire of everyday eco activities? graph of japanese statisticsThat was the question posed by iShare in this survey into being tired of eco life. Note that eco here refers to both ecology and economising.

Demographics

Over the 10th and 11th of November 2010 1,509 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 53.9% of the sample were male, 16.2% in their twenties, 32.7% in their thirties, 37.6% in their forties, and 13.5% in their fifties. Furthermore, all of them lived within one of the cities of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Osaka, Kyoto or Kobe.

I’m definitely fed up hearing about eco, and I’m dreading the day that they tell us that we should unplug out phone rechargers at work before we go home at night. I worked out that at an average hourly rate it actually costs more money to bend under the desk and spend 10 seconds plugging and unplugging versus the bleed from an average charger.

Air purifier and ioniser purchasing intentions in Japan

Would you like to buy an ioniser for home use? graph of japanese statisticsThis recent survey from iShare looked at air purifier and ioniser purchasing intentions. Note that although it is unseasonal for buying air purifiers as they tend to have an image of being useful for hayfever sufferers, ionisers (or indeed air purifiers with built-in ionisers) are in laboratory tests effective against cleaning influenza and other viruses out of the air.

Demographics

Between the 5th and 8th of November 2010 590 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 55.6% of the sample were male, 26.9% in their twenties, 33.6% in their thirties, and 39.5% in their forties.

I have an air purifier that we use every night, and it comes complete with a built-in “Plasma Cluster” ioniser. It’s the sort of thing that’s impossible to tell if it has any benefit in real life, I think, but it seems to work in the lab at least.
