I've had an experience with a (non Japanese) woman who told me she liked men who had bad manners in western terms of talking with their mouths full and chewing with their mouths opened and stuff like that.

I think that it's also important to note that lifting one's bowl/plate (depending on what it is of course) is kind of how it works. It would be weird to not lift one's bowl of rice and eat out of it that way. To call it rude to do so is looking at it from a non-Japanese perspective in my opinion. However, elbows on the table are, from my experience, considered rude even by Japanese standards.

Nevertheless, I too would love to see a survey done on Japanese table manners and how Japanese women and men view each others' habits. I'm looking forward to your translation.
