Comments on: American drama series to watch over the Christmas holidays

Any TV show that runs in a series (like full house, seinfeld, sopranos, sex & the city, etc) is called a “drama” in Japan. This is regardless of whether or not the show is “dramatic” in the English sense of the word “drama”.

The Beverly Hills 80210 also had me laughing though ;). I did a google map search of the zip code and it ended up being in Denver Colorado.

I always find it funny wheneer I see a shelf full of shows I’ve never even heard of at a rental shop… judging by the displays you’d think they were huge successes. Of course when my bro came to Japan and saw them he said he’d never really heard of those shows or knew they were popular!

Totally disappointing lack of The Wire or The Sopranos on the list – surely the two US dramas most worth watching!

FYI, FOX Japan is actually running a 24 marathon this year. Starting at midnight January 1st, all seven seasons will be shown over the following week (Season 8 has not yet aired in Japan, though I assume it’s coming soon). Maybe that’s why it was so high?

Also, LOL at half-hour comedies like Full House being a “drama.” Oh, and PS: that’s Beverly Hills 90210, not 8.
