Why have a honeymoon?

If they have time and money, should people go on honeymoon? graph of japanese statisticsFrom my point of view, honeymoons are all part of getting married, so I cannot understand why this survey from iShare into honeymoons found that just a third of unmarried Japanese thought a honeymoon was essential.

Demographics

Between the 20th and 25th of August 2010 450 members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 54.4% of the sample were male, 29.8% in their twenties, 33.8% in their thirties, and 36.4% in their forties.

On the other hand, given the lack of holidays, or at least the combination of both a reluctance to take and to grant holidays in Japan, I can understand some of the lack of enthusiasm for honeymoons. Although most of the married people I know did take honeymoons, a number of them took them a few weeks to a few months after the ceremony.

Hmmm… Maybe they’re thinking about their current financial situations, how exceedingly expensive weddings are in Japan, and becoming doubtful. (I mean, weddings in North America are ridiculously expensive, but there seems to be more flexibility to have a small/inexpensive/alternative wedding and still have it be socially acceptable.)

Legally becoming married and having a ceremony are different events here. Sometimes people have the ceremony months after their actual marriage, sometimes they have no ceremony at all. Having a honeymoon when you’ve perhaps already been married for half a year may just not feel very important anymore.

When we married we had no ceremony, and while we had a honeymoon of sorts, it was a one-week trip to Hokkaido that we’d already planned to do anyhow. We just relabelled it “honeyomoon” instead of “vacation” to stop people asking about why we didn’t have one. ^_^

It’s really expensive and really hard to put together the time for both people to get time off work at the same time (~__~).

Also, I agree with Clarissa and Janne.

Honeymoon’s are once in your lifetime!
Enjoy life you only got one! Live it well, live it to the fullest!

Sharing it between husband and wife is very crucial, first as married couple trip!

We work so god forsaken hard for it daily! Opportunities like this just don’t come around very often, don’t throw it away it’s literally a once in a lifetime chance!
I know it’s expensive, that’s why you save money and manage it right! Earn the money, save up, and you’ll be thankful later!

Honeymoon is a definite must do, otherwise you are wasting the life I think Newlyweds deserves this for sure period! Once you and your wife are
over 60 those chances to go on a honeymoon don’t happen much often…you are young, live life, be happy, be grateful for all that you got and enjoy it please!
    Mottainai yo!
