went out on a date with a japanese guy and it was so awful, but wasnt sure if it was normal or not to behave how he did so i politely struggled through it...

First he takes me to an otaku shop and insists on sitting down on a bench chatting in front of the AV section. I already had a feeling it was all downhill from there.

We finally left for a restaurant. He insisted I order a $10 desert, even though I had not finished my meal. I was a bit frustrated because I said, "Lets just wait until we finish eating, then see if we still want desert." He insisted though, so I thought he was trying to be sweet, and we were going to share the desert. "Waiiiiiter~" Instead he took my half-eaten food and started eating the rest of it while i ate the desert. o_o He then asked to try some of the desert, but only ate a bite. When it came to paying he was like, "betsu betsu" meaning, "split it." He ate half my meal (which was humiliating...) and then wouldnt even pay 1,600 yen or so when he forced me to order the desert. The worst part was he kept yelling, "Waiiiiter" in a strained, high pitched voice asking for more water. He even took my water and drank it o_o

Then he was like, "Now lets go to karaoke." I was like, "....." and on the way there he kept shivering and was like, "Im so cold." and went on about how when he wakes up every morning, he is cold and his throat is dry. I was like, "....." He noticed that I wasn't talking and was like, "You're just like a Japanese girl. So quiet and reserved." I was like, "....."
and he was like, ":D" At one point I swear he was hinting for me to lend my jacket to him (he already had a jacket...thicker than mine!!).

The karaoke was even worst. He paid and then was like, "You can just pay me your part. 500 yen." Then the room was tiny and cramped. He kept complaining about how cold he was, and then left to use the restroom around literally 5 times in 2 hours.....He kept complaining, "My hands are so cold. Can I touch yours...?" I was like, "No. <-<" The worst part is he started going on about how he likes visual kei and was like, "People say I look like this singer." I hate visual kei. I thought maybe I had found a Japanese guy who liked horror films at least. Of course his response? "Oh no. Too kowaiiiii! I dont like those" He did all of the singing, and kept complaining about his cold hands, his dry throat, AND his lips ("my lips are so chapped. I wish I had chapstick"). The people in a nearby room were singing and we could hear it through the walls. He kept complaining about how horrible they were, and talking to the wall, "Shut up!"

It got more depressing. He started mentioning Valentine's day which happened the day before. He said, "I have never received chocolates from a girl. Except sometimes my mom." Then he started bugging me to buy him chocolates.

I was so happy for that date to be over...Not saying that I'm a perfect date and he doesn't seem like a meanspirited person at least...but damn dude...

hi,

I feel quite uncomfortable with this particular survey, specifically Q3 and subsequent.

reason: if I were to be in the scenario given in Q3, I would *discuss* the issue with my date; I find it disturbing that your hypothetical couples do not *communicate*, apparently.
