I love depachika on the whole, although I stay away from the meat counter. My least favourite food smell is buta-man, Chinese pork steamed bun, which is sold at a couple of stations on the way home, and anyone bringing it into my carriage really turns my stomach.

I’ve noticed on a couple of tv shows that bread gets special billing in Japanese food culture. I wonder if there’s any particular reason? Brits have learned to love it from the French, Americans see it as the thing impeding the meat and cheese, the Swiss will coat it in anything as long as it’s stale… but the Japanese, they see it as a treat unto itself.
Depachika is fun! It’s also the only reason to ever go to a department store; all other floors are pretty much exclusively for women. Even the men’s wear floors are really designed for women to shop for their husbands, not for guys to come there by ourselves.
Totally.
Though I do like to shop for ceramics.
