Hi Pearl,

A herbivore boy is a name for passive guys who aren't terribly interested in chasing girls, and prefers to stay within their safety zone rather than risk any sort of adventure, be it with women or travelling or living abroad, etc. I saw a segment on the news last week about "inward-looking" students - Kyoto University (the second most prestigious uni in Japan) reported that even though they offered a tutition fees waiver, an extra allowance, free accommodation, etc, they could only find about 30 people willing to take up any of the 130 places they had on offer for one year overseas study. That's the sort of effect "herbivore boys" are having on Japanese society.
