Drunken FAILs of the Japanese

7.5% sleeping fail

Despite the suspicious-looking title and the dodgy picture, it’s not Sunday and a silly ranking, but a serious survey from iShare into alcohol consumption and indiscretions.

Demographics

Between the 24th and 30th of April 2009 398 mobile phone-using members of the CLUB BBQ free email forwarding service completed a private interent-based questionnaire. 51.8% of the sample were male, 39.4% in their twenties, 30.4% in their thirties, and 30.2% in their forties.

There’s so much interesting data here I hardly know where to start! In Q1SQ2 women rate themselves as stronger drinkers than men, although perhaps they are compaing themselves with other women rather than men? In Q1SQ5, it’s quite a surprisingly high number of people who’ve ended up on one-night-stands (or worse) due to alcohol.

Where are these 1.6% of women who get naked when they get drunk?

What I’m surprised is that they didn’t ask the frequency of drinking. There’s a big difference between someone who drinks once a year and makes an idiot of themselves and someone who is routinely quietly drunk virtually every evening. This may account for some of the descrepancies in the answers between men and woman, as the latter tends to go out less frequently. Not to mention there should be a sampling with the answers sorted by age as well.

With regards to the indiscretion question, how much do you want to bet that the “Get Naked” was inspired by Kusanagi’s recent exploits? Though it was interesting to see that they are more likely to get naked then end up at a police station.

CityDweller, I think you can roughly correlate alcohol tolerance with frequency of drinking, looking at the full figures. There was a definite trend for those who claimed to be able to hold their drink to get up to more mischief when drunk.
