If I had 100 million yen…

This was the question posed by goo Ranking, to see what people would want to do if they had 100 million yen in banknotes.

Demographics

Between the 21st and 23rd of November 2008 1,083 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 50.4% of the sample were female, 9.0% in their teens, 15.7% in their twenties, 29.1% in their thirties, 25.5% in their forties, 11.3% in their fifties, and 9.4% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.

I’d have to go with the money bath; I’m surprised “light cigarettes with it” didn’t feature, though, as that’s another popular image of having money to burn. I’m not sure why slapping someone in the face appears so high in the ratings, however. Does anyone recognise the reference in Japanese popular culture?

I love how none of these have anything to do with the actual notes. You could do all but a couple of these with blank paper :)

Glowing Face Man, yes, that’s the whole point of the survey!

A web search for 札束で顔を with your choice of action (ひっぱたく、ビンタ and so on) turns up enough hits that this seems like a fairly common theme. Not sure you could track it down to one original instance though.

    Wow, Japanese people are retards.

Where are the people who would spend some, invest some, and save some?

@ Curzon: the “retards’” top response keeps up to 90 million yen in their pockets to do other things with. In any case if your option wasn’t available on the original frivolous poll then the “retards” wouldn’t have been able to select it.

(A comparison of the savings rates in Japan and the United States makes me think Americans shouldn’t start throwing around labels like that in a context like this, fwiw.)

I would put it in the bank, pay off my home loan and invest the rest. I would buy a car. I am just boring.

100 million yen isn’t really a lot of money.

I would so like to do #13: Change it for 100 million one yen coins, just to be able to go around shopping with that many coins! (^O^)

    ..but I probably wouldn’t…(^^;)…

Actually, five yen coins would be even more fun, because you could put them on a long string and wear around your neck or something!
