ONE PIECE most moving manga
I must admit to being pretty much completely ignorant when it comes to manga, but I always suspect many of my visitors are avid readers, therefore I hope this pair of ranking surveys from DIMSDRIVE Research as part of their 138th Ranking Research into what manga made one cry and what manga would one recommend to others will be of interest.
Demographics
Between the 27th of March and the 3rd of April 2008 6,399 members of the DIMSDRIVE Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.8% of the sample was female, 1.4% in their teens, 16.5% in their twenties, 36.0% in their thirties, 28.1% in their forties, 12.6% in their fifties, and 5.4% aged sixty or older.
About the only manga I’ve read has been Darling ha Gaikokujin, which I can recommend. Note that they are explicitly referring to books here, not TV or movie adaptations or original stories.
In Q1, men chose exclusively male-targetted titles for their top ten, but women had both male and female titles.

Can’t say any of the manga I’ve read has made me cry, but then again, I’ve read very little.
Like the horror stuff, though.

[…] May 19, 2008 I have long admitted my terrible terrible addiction to shoujo manga. I was going to share this poll on googlereader, but I figure it gets the same audience and is more relevant to here, so here’s the latest translated poll from the What Japan Thinks blog. […]

One Piece? One Piece?!! For that to come up on top I must judge that Japan is not only a foreign country, but a country peopled by an alien race.
Jerry Lewis comes to mind, but he started in America. Let’s say then that Jerry Lewis was French. Why the French find him funny, we Americans cannot say.

OK, I really like One Piece; it’s the only manga I’ve been able to stand. That said, a major reason I like it is because the world and the narrative reads like it’s coming straight out of a long-running role-playing campaign, and a decidedly geeky one at that. So I’m a bit surprised that it would place so highly overall, and _very_ surprised that it actually places higher among younger women than men.

Hell yes One Piece is the most moving manga. I’ve been trying to tell people for a while now… Don’t underestimate it!

The only two I’ve read on these lists are One Piece and NANA, and I have to say those are my two favorites.
I’m not surprised One Piece was rated the most moving manga in Japan; it’s deceptively complex under its simple art. I suppose the thing that gets people to cry the most is about the characters; about their dreams and what it means to be a friend.
I know it’s the best damn manga I’ve read– and I’m female, too. It’s made me cry at least 6 times. (And really makes you think about the world in general.)
It’s hard to get used to, but HIGHLY recommended. You won’t regret it.

wow…great RK spoiler…I haven’t even finished reading the manga…
anyway, there’s no surprise on One Piece either. Its also one of the highest selling current manga in Japan. Mostly the characters what make this moving..its always like that and the characters tend to have great dreams, something you want to see them do and their feats in order to accomplish those dreams only strengthen it.
