It seems like you are assuming newly purchased, as you talk about your own DVD buying habits. I'd imagine this poll is more reflective of rental DVDs, which is obviously more of a cultural "given" here in Japan. When I lived in the states, it was the opposite, with more people casually purchasing DVDs because of their being comparative cheaper. Was this based on rental or new DVDs?
