I am chinese. japanese products are much better in quality. I hope China enforce stricter laws on quality control. But I have to say that I eat chinese food all the time, some produced in US, some imported from China, I never had problem. After all, I can never stay away from chinese food, :) hope I won't be the next victim

ShaneS: the offical phrase for mainland China is 中華人民共和国, I think, although sometimes it is abbreviated to just 中国.

Thanks for posting this survey - it very interesting and timely. While I understand that it may be difficult to determine where something originates from by its made in designation I am curious to know what the Kanji would be for "Made in China"? As a foreigner who can barely speak Japanese let alone read Kanji this would be very helpful to know. I tired to search via various online dictionaries and came up confused...

I am with you on the 100 Yen store products for the home food or other times that you put in your body is a whole different matter. Thanks.

Yes, I suppose one can argue that there is the distraction factor in this news to take away from last year being the Year of the Fake, but this story seems to be developing into one suggesting maliciousness behind the poisoning.

To be fair, Japanese food manufacturers have not exactly covered themselves in glory the past year or so. I rather suspect that the only difference between Japanese and Chinese producers is how good they are at covering things up.

And for Japanese manufacturers it seems to hit the high-end as much or more; I saw a report that mentioned that if all chicken being sold as premium Jidori was true, there would have to be more than ten times the actual number.
