		<description>Well, former PM Abe talked a lot about #5.  Didn't have an actual plan,but talked about it.  Some of the other gets lip service, but no real action.
What's telling is that "A country that refuels the Pakistani Navy in indirect support of the reconstruction element of ISAF operations in Afghanistan" isn't even on the list even though the LDP, which claims to listen to the people, is putting most of its efforts into that, which I guess means we're no closer to #8.</description>

		<description>Fifteen years ago I met a Japanese academic who seldom left the country even though her research would have gained from trips abroad so long as her elderly parents were living. She felt a stong responsibility to them. But I have read that relations between the generations have been shifting in Japan. In this context good pensions for the old may be particularly significant.</description>
