Almost a quarter of Japanese wedding banquets go uneaten

I noticed over on Mutant Frog Travelogue that Adamu presented the results of research by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and others into isues surrounding wedding banquet costs. Well worth a visit to check out the waste that goes on at such events.

When I went to my host brother’s wedding, I remember being let down because of the cake. The wedding cake was all for show - there was one real piece of cake, and the rest was made from cardboard. They frosted it over to make it look seamless, but there were markings for where the bride and groom were to sink the knife. I guess they already knew that it would go to waste… Too bad, cause I wouldn’t have let my share of it linger for more than a few minutes….
