		<description>Thanks Joe for the corrections: I found mention of a Great Merger of the Showa (Taisho?) Era, but didn't know if it was to do with finance or towns. I vaguely remembered the one-yen enterprise stuff, but I couldn't track down more details with Google.</description>

		<description>"Great merger" refers to the merger of local authorities to cut down on bureaucratic bloat, while "one-yen enterprises" refers to abolishing the capital requirement to start a company (you used to need 10 million yen in the bank in order to register a kabushiki kaisha--now you just need one yen.)

They are both policies for which I will remember this administration as a pimpin' one.</description>
