Most Japanese SNS users log in every day
japan.internet.com reported on goo Research’s first regular Social Networking Service (SNS) usage survey. They interviewed by means of a private internet poll 1,067 members of their monitor group. 56.3% of these surveyed were female, 1.6% were in their teens, 20.8% in their twenties, 43.2% in their thirties, 21.4% in their forties, 9.1% in their fifties, and 3.9% in their sixties.
I really should join mixi just for the sake of seeing what the fuss is all about, as as I occassionally get searches from people looking for invites to said service. If any of my readers could oblige, I would be most grateful!
Q1: Are you using a Social Networking Service (SNS)? (Sample size=1,067)
Currently using one (to Q2 and Q3) 19.3% Used to use on, but now I don’t 5.3% Never used one 44.7% Don’t know what an SNS is 30.6% Looking at the 19.3%, or 206 people currently using SNS, 73.3% were members of just one, and 18.4% participated in two. When asked to choose which one they used the most, 83.5% not suprisingly selected mixi.

Votes Percentage Communicate with friends and family 137 66.5% Find people with the same hobbies 85 41.3% Gather information 81 39.3% No particular reason or just to fill idle moments 78 37.9% To publish my own diary or photos 70 34.0% Business reasons 8 3.9% Other 3 1.5% Finally, the whole of the 1,067 person saple were asked if they thought the invitation-only policy was good. 43.7% thought it was, 16.7% thought it wasn’t, with the remaining either undecided or unsure.

Social Networking Service? Mixi? Maybe I should get hold of some invites to see what is mixi all about. Just my luck I don’t know anyone in Japan to make some friends. Mixi must be a great way to interact.

Hi there, from what i know, currently, even though you have mixi invite, you still need a valid mobile phone address in japan.
