Japanese women dream of the USA
DIMSDRIVE performed internet-based research involving 5,274 people in September of last year to find out which country’s citizens would people most want to marry. It is not stated whether or not the people interviewed were single or not.
The Asia versus the West split is quite noticeable in the men, but really striking amongst the women. I previously translated statistics regarding international marriages in Japan that shows that the ideals being expressed here do not seem to be realised.
On a slight tangent, I watched the last episode of an NHK English learning program which features an English-speaking Western blonde angel that prods a clueless office worker along the path to success at her job getting a date with her transferred from New York colleague, the ideal tall, muscular, tanned, well-coiffured white executive. The angel’s job was done because the glaikit Misaki finally pulled her man.

However for women there is a marked difference; about 74% in total choose the West (over 40% for the USA alone) versus a mere 7.4% for the East, a massive ten to one vote for Europe and the USA.
Next, looking at the detailed age breakdown, it’s only in the teenage girls group that the USA fails to top the charts, losing out to France and Korea, and equal with the UK. For men in their twenties, American women are preferred over the second-placed Korean women by almost 60%, and the Chinese are back in fifth, gaining just over a third of the number of votes of the USA. However, the older men get, the stronger the charms of the Asian neighbours become, with the gap at its smallest being just a mere three votes. Similarly, for men in their forties and over, Chinese women cut the gap from a third to about a half of the USA score.
For women, as they get older (ignoring the over sixty bracket which has a very small sample size, so may be rather inaccurate) the attraction to American men only get stronger; in their twenties, Americans get just under a quarter of the vote, but by their fifties, it surpasses three in ten. Despite the charms of the disturbingly Harry Potter-like Bae Yong Joon Korean men do not seem to be particularly favoured by the middle-aged demographic.
These two main trends noted above are perhaps reflections on Japanese society as much as on foreign stereotypes. The younger men hold images of themselves as charming the sophisticated Western woman, but as they age (and visit dodgy hostess bars…) they come to realise that perhaps only Asian women could accept their typical Japanese behaviour. For women, after having been around Japanese men for many, many years, they too may come to realise that the Western stereotypes of politeness and chivalry are the only things that could satisty them in marriage.
Bonus points if you can name the people pictured…

I personally find Asian women very attractive but only if the do have some European look, face not too flat, legs not too short, eyes not too narrow. More like a racial mixer. I have a friend who is partly mongoloid who on the first sight is not Mongoloid but has facial features, eyes and hair of mongols but is very tall. She is highly attractive especailly because she looks so exotic and different than the average Caucasian woman in my country.

I’m surprised almost everyone (especially those who claimed to be black) disagreed with you. For those very aware of their surroundings it is not hard to see that there is a racial hierarchy in this world. Whites are at the top of the ladder and in the middle are all non-blacks and non-whites who desperately attempt white status. These are the ones who infiltrate racism the most. They do it to distance themselves from blackness. And at the bottom of the ladder you have blacks.
I’m no racist, being multi-”ethnic” myself (Igbo, German, Jewish, Hungarian) but I must state my objective view of the world. The racism perpetuated by those in the middle of the ladder is a legacy of recent history in which you had colonialism and white economic supremacy, developments which seated whites at the top (at least from the perspective of other cultures).
Now regarding Japan: interestingly, although this country is industrialized and very modern, it is not as “open-minded” as the USA or Western Europe and prejudice is much stronger there. What ViolentAJ says is true. A black person in Japan won’t get lynched, but you will be looked down upon more than non-blacks. This is the case in other parts of the world (from Latin American to Vietnam) as well.

What amazes me is that some of you tend to call anyone dark or with a tint to them BLACK! Heres a Question…since when were any of yall able to tell what any of my race is anymore? Ill admit that about 400+ years ago you might or would have been able to tell my race, but were no longer in the past…so many years have passed new races have been created through interracial mixing…I look brown but I happen to have Mexican, Irish, and white mixed into me. Black is for those who are nothing, BUT black!
Heres another thing for those of you who seem to think that ONLY ugly Japanese girls date black people. It’s not true whatsoever so whoever reads that please don’t believe it I’ve been to japan with some school mates that live there and know what goes on in japan I’ve seen 4 black kids in the school that I went to who have Japanese girlfriends and only 1 of them doesn’t appeal to my tastes..and then again when i think about it, this still doesn’t mean shes ugly, she just aint my type
Certain types appeal to certain people…
Race is just a color…It’s not a person or a certain way a persons supposed to act it just a damn color, and I hope people can understand that. It has nothing to do with the way you act, dress, dance, eat, sleep, etc. That all has to do with popularity of something or tradition or stuff like that.
Please stop pulling the color card and instead look at a bigger picture, the world aint all just color and race…Well to some of y’all maybe it is but to me I could care less about a color or race and im proud knowing that. =) Everyone should follow that kind of influence.

Sure there are racists in Japan just like any other country but it’s nowhere near the kind of atmosphere folks like ViolentAJ would have you believe. Are there those who look down on me because of my race? I’m certain there are but it’s not something that is unique to Japan and has happened all my life. The most important thing is what impact do those individuals who would look down on me have on my life? Zero, nada, nothing. If you are the sort to get all twisted over what some bigot thinks about you, you have more problems than that bigot.

That is the sad truth, Dwight. Most of these people simply want to be aggressive agianst me since it’s the “in thing” to do. There are racist people on every continent in the world, everyone should know that. I was in Japan for 10 Days last month, and as i expected, i didn’t encounter ANY of the negativity that Violent Aj was talking about. Not even so much as a nasty look. Japanese youth seem to be infatuated with Jamaicans and Black Americans culture, im not sure about older Japanese people but EVERYONE i met, spoke to or spent time with was extremely nice and pleasant. As far as Japanese women go, again, i had no problem in that department as i expected. Now, 10 days is far from enough time to get the total scope of any nation, but again, what country is free of people who prejudge others?? Aj suffers from lack of social skills and more. So his experiences anywhere in the world, will not be the same as mine. If your a negative person, you will surround urself in negativity whether you try to or not.
Thats why i dont agree with AJ, i could care less if i “fit in” as Aj say’s with people on some random forum. I’m just here to unleash my thoughts, not follow others.

I agree with “Black passenger”, “Dwight”, and “Onyx”…these are people who can make a difference in how people look at each other with the right words…I ALSO agree with a tiny bit of what “AJ” says, but just about theres racism part.
To be honest I used to have trouble looking at stuff like this like when people say “Japanese women hate Black men or Dark skinned men” but now…all I can do is laugh and think…hmmm this person doesn’t like my race, and just laugh about it cause they don’t really have any good reason for hating a race at all! Really Your gonna find, see, hear, or experience racism at one point, but your gonna experience more kindness or who cares attitude 98% more of the time your here on earth. Just enjoy other peoples company and be glad your able to at least see another day.

This is rather amusing. I normally don’t comment on anything but I will in this case. I am just surprised that people who are writing here speak as if they “know” or “understand” Japanese and Japanese culture.
In all honestly, Japanese women’s idea and perception of American men is Caucasian-Americans. I don’t know why people are even arguing on this. It’s TRUE! But the ones who been to American know that most white men aren’t what Hollywood likes portray them as.
Black hiphop and music culture are popular in Japan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Japanese are attracted to black people to the personal level. Just as how white kids love listening to hiphop music and follow the fashion, but they only exclusively date and marry their own kind.
But this is no means of saying there are no exceptions. we are all human beings with feelings and attraction. who knows who we will fall in love with. It could be white, black, pink, red, green!

I agree with you that others’ opinions should not define how we live our lives and whether or not we are content. I also agree that ViolentAJ allows others to define his happiness, which is a flaw. ViolentAj, though acknowledging the imperfection of the world around him should strive to live contently.
While there is prejudice all over the world it is also true it is not a two-way street with equal traffic in both lanes. I think that’s something we can agree on, something ViolentAJ wants people to acknowledge.
And as sealove mentioned just because black culture may seem popular it does not mean full acceptance. It’s not a give all or don’t give scenario. People pick and choose when it comes to different situations. While a Japanese man may bump hip-hop and wear earings it does not mean he is open to marrying (ultimate symbol of acceptance) a black woman. I’d also like to let others know that this a legitimate topic of discussion although it has evoked strong (and understandable) emotion from ViolentAJ

Sorry to say this, but I had been in New York, Boston, Paris, Berlin, London and Rome and most japanese and asians girls there are ugly.
I don’t know where you find those pretty asians you talk about.
98% of the asian girls I had seen have bulldog faces.
In Paris they look specialy ugly comparted with the beutiful thin french girls.
Sure some had good looks when you are 10 feets away because they wear mini skirts and colorful clothing but almost all of them had those wide hooky noses and bulldog checks.

Ive lived in asia for seven years. and one more thing: your ‘thin parisean girls’ and other european women for that matter, have early ’sell by’ date. once they are over 25 they get wrinkles, crows feet around the eyes, their skin just breaks down. japanese women on the other hand, sho very few signs of age, if any at all, even in their 50s. and that, RPelf, is indisputable. ive been to the countries youve mentioned and Ive seen some bulldog faced natives of those countries.

Your right we are African American, for the most point, but like I said you can’t tell me that Im Negro American or whatever you want to call it seeing how my family is mixed with all sorts of different races…So if you want to get technical Im African American…African due to my past heritage and American due to my later heritage.
And 2nd you can’t say for sure that ALL Asian women or Japanese women don’t like black men cause your not all of them…or ANY of them for that matter.
Like someone posted a while ago…Love comes in all different shapes and sizes no matter if your black or white, blue or green…The majority of a persons race will probably marry another person from there race. ex: Japanese and Japanese, Black and Black, or White and white, but there are interracial marriages and they do occur. And alot of them do work out.

Violent AJ all I can really say is to Go back and try again, not ALL Asians hate black people, Theres stereotype going around saying blacks are ignorant, violent, and a whole lot of other bull. Go back learn japanese enjoy the culture and prove your not what they crack us up to be and you can change the views of at least some Japanese people about blacks.
