Japanese women dream of the USA
DIMSDRIVE performed internet-based research involving 5,274 people in September of last year to find out which country’s citizens would people most want to marry. It is not stated whether or not the people interviewed were single or not.
The Asia versus the West split is quite noticeable in the men, but really striking amongst the women. I previously translated statistics regarding international marriages in Japan that shows that the ideals being expressed here do not seem to be realised.
On a slight tangent, I watched the last episode of an NHK English learning program which features an English-speaking Western blonde angel that prods a clueless office worker along the path to success at her job getting a date with her transferred from New York colleague, the ideal tall, muscular, tanned, well-coiffured white executive. The angel’s job was done because the glaikit Misaki finally pulled her man.

However for women there is a marked difference; about 74% in total choose the West (over 40% for the USA alone) versus a mere 7.4% for the East, a massive ten to one vote for Europe and the USA.
Next, looking at the detailed age breakdown, it’s only in the teenage girls group that the USA fails to top the charts, losing out to France and Korea, and equal with the UK. For men in their twenties, American women are preferred over the second-placed Korean women by almost 60%, and the Chinese are back in fifth, gaining just over a third of the number of votes of the USA. However, the older men get, the stronger the charms of the Asian neighbours become, with the gap at its smallest being just a mere three votes. Similarly, for men in their forties and over, Chinese women cut the gap from a third to about a half of the USA score.
For women, as they get older (ignoring the over sixty bracket which has a very small sample size, so may be rather inaccurate) the attraction to American men only get stronger; in their twenties, Americans get just under a quarter of the vote, but by their fifties, it surpasses three in ten. Despite the charms of the disturbingly Harry Potter-like Bae Yong Joon Korean men do not seem to be particularly favoured by the middle-aged demographic.
These two main trends noted above are perhaps reflections on Japanese society as much as on foreign stereotypes. The younger men hold images of themselves as charming the sophisticated Western woman, but as they age (and visit dodgy hostess bars…) they come to realise that perhaps only Asian women could accept their typical Japanese behaviour. For women, after having been around Japanese men for many, many years, they too may come to realise that the Western stereotypes of politeness and chivalry are the only things that could satisty them in marriage.

Hi guys - it was interesting to read the comments. Maybe both sides of the arguement are partly right? every culture is a bit racist to others even if they dont consciously try to be. its not fair at all - just human nature. also everyone feels like a bit of an outsider in another country.

A few facts about Japan. I must say, this is very on point.
A) Very Facist country. Yes, despite it having a reputation of being more global / international, over all, their society and how the system works is still very closed.
B) Idiots out way the so called open minded people.
C) THEY COPY.
D) THEY CAN’T THINK FOR THEMSELVES, which is why facism still runs rampant there. Individual creativity is not tolerated, so if you choose not to dress, look, or do what everyone else does, you may find yourself being an outcast, commiting suicide in some park.
E) Did I mention they copy? Oh, yeah…they go abroad, make friends, or pretend to, gather info, bring it back to their country, and make it, or at least try to, better than they way it was originally created. This can be machinery, food, dancing skills, just about anything. You’d think they’d be more “accepting” for the “outside” world, since that’s where they get everything. However, as it seems, they are just angry little people that know deep down in their hearts everything has been taken from the “outside”, which makes it very hard to understand, as well as hypocritical, on why they shut the “outside” out….?
And (F), some of the women are attractive. However, due to the facist mentality / conformity, they are FORCED, as well as brainwashed, to stay in their boxes. Very few venture out of their boxes, but i think they are because of superficial / fake reasons, which conclude all the previous points.
I have a freind who is black and married to a japanese girl. As I truly am happy for them, i just can’t stop to question whether or not if its real. I’m sure he might have questioned about it himslef. Everytime I went to their home, she was always listening to hip-hop, reggie, or r & b, wearing african jewlery and clothes that fit in that setting, if you know what i mean. So in a way, he looked as if he was just part of the many accessories around her.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’d like to have more value than that. Which is why I’m kinda glad I wasn’t viewd in that light.

I think that it is troubling to hear that anyone would blanket a whole race of people as being one way. That sounds like some racist shit to me. Onyx when you go to Japan I hope you go with an open mind don’t believe all teh bullshit opinions. Japanese people are different than westerners, but it doesn’t mean that they are all the same, it definately doesn’t mean that they are all racist. My friend from Kenya has been living in Japan for eight years and of course he has qualms with the society, but in the end individuals are individuals we have to remember that. @ Wayne, Ya man, im about as open minded as they get ( i think) I’ve been wanting to go to Japan now for about 10 years, so i have an ok grasp on the culture and the language. I’m going there for about a week and a half from May28th to June 9th. Mainly to do most of regular tourist stuff like see or hike up Mt. Fuji,travel around to different cities and look @ temples and such during the day. At night is when i plan on doing some serious party’n. So getting laid is’nt my objective on this trip, although im sure i wont have any issues doing that either.

I would just like to say that there seems to be a lot of negativity towards japanese people here and teh society in general. One thing I can say is that I have lived there and many other places. Currently (not for long) I live in Latvia. Japan kicks this country’s ass. It is also good to realize that Japan as a whole in comparision with a lot of teh rest of teh world is a good country one of teh best. I am not the biggest fan in teh world but give respect where it is do. Also teh women take very good care f their men, and it is more traditional. Man gets money does work women does household duties. I think in the west we have a prblem with society making women think that somehow a housewife is not a good profesion. Somehow it is a lower occupation. Maybe that is why we have the probelms we have with drug abuse, and fucked up kids. Men and women have been playing these roles for thousands of years and since the US and other bandwwagon nations decide that women should workand take family second that seems to be the right thing, equal rights. What is wrong with a man being a man and a woman being a woman. We were created with certain attributes that makes us able to produce a family women should not have to act like men to get respect. Anyone ever think that maybe we are fucked? I saw a japanese girl walk down a dark alley in sendai at 2 in the morning with her prada bag yapping on her cell phone, she is not scared, what would happen in america or most western countries? Then ask yourself why are we different. Japanese people can learn from us and we should learn from them, maybe we are closed minded.
