Japanese women dream of the USA
DIMSDRIVE performed internet-based research involving 5,274 people in September of last year to find out which country’s citizens would people most want to marry. It is not stated whether or not the people interviewed were single or not.
The Asia versus the West split is quite noticeable in the men, but really striking amongst the women. I previously translated statistics regarding international marriages in Japan that shows that the ideals being expressed here do not seem to be realised.
On a slight tangent, I watched the last episode of an NHK English learning program which features an English-speaking Western blonde angel that prods a clueless office worker along the path to success at her job getting a date with her transferred from New York colleague, the ideal tall, muscular, tanned, well-coiffured white executive. The angel’s job was done because the glaikit Misaki finally pulled her man.

However for women there is a marked difference; about 74% in total choose the West (over 40% for the USA alone) versus a mere 7.4% for the East, a massive ten to one vote for Europe and the USA.
Next, looking at the detailed age breakdown, it’s only in the teenage girls group that the USA fails to top the charts, losing out to France and Korea, and equal with the UK. For men in their twenties, American women are preferred over the second-placed Korean women by almost 60%, and the Chinese are back in fifth, gaining just over a third of the number of votes of the USA. However, the older men get, the stronger the charms of the Asian neighbours become, with the gap at its smallest being just a mere three votes. Similarly, for men in their forties and over, Chinese women cut the gap from a third to about a half of the USA score.
For women, as they get older (ignoring the over sixty bracket which has a very small sample size, so may be rather inaccurate) the attraction to American men only get stronger; in their twenties, Americans get just under a quarter of the vote, but by their fifties, it surpasses three in ten. Despite the charms of the disturbingly Harry Potter-like Bae Yong Joon Korean men do not seem to be particularly favoured by the middle-aged demographic.
These two main trends noted above are perhaps reflections on Japanese society as much as on foreign stereotypes. The younger men hold images of themselves as charming the sophisticated Western woman, but as they age (and visit dodgy hostess bars…) they come to realise that perhaps only Asian women could accept their typical Japanese behaviour. For women, after having been around Japanese men for many, many years, they too may come to realise that the Western stereotypes of politeness and chivalry are the only things that could satisty them in marriage.
Bonus points if you can name the people pictured…

Sorry about that guys. What Mark meant to say is “Japanese people do indeed hate Black people. When I went there, they loved me because I am White. I don’t have my pick of japanese girls since most Japanese girls like Japanese guys, but I can get laid instantly. Black guys cannot because Japanese do not like Blacks.
Also, the new law for japanese immiration will make sure that no Black people will enter the country. They are also working on deporting the few Blacks that are in Japan.

Mark made some very good observations.
If I didn’t know, I would think that Japan’s top models are running head over heals for every white male, but this is not the case at all, yet this is the vibe that I get when I read this blog. I have a Japanese girl friend and while this topic interested me, I asked her about it. She said that one of the main reasons that Japanese women do like American men is because thier idea about the American lifestyle. 40hrs/week is a pretty common work week for most Americans with dinner often taken with the family. In Japan, 60 hrs/week is common and much of this is computer/office work. How do you feel when you go home after work? Imagine working even more? This, she said is one main factor. For those that think it is about looks, this is not true. American men are not that attractive. Many of the Japanese and Korean actors are very attractive to the Japanese. My gfriend said that based just on looks, her favorite actor was far more attractive than Brad Pitt. White people are so proud of themselves but there are several things that Japanese don’t like in the appearance. The skin for white males becomes rough and matures considerably faster than Japanese men. The mouth for most westerners is much larger than for Japanese. Notice how in Anime, the characters have big eyes but ultra thin mouths. Eye brows, my gfriend said is another thing. Japanese people are used to seeing thin and not strong eye brows, when she looks at a lot of foreing men, she told me that she feels like the features are too strong. White men do have an advantage in the sense that a lot of hollywood films promote western looks, but how many really beautiful Japanese girls do you see with western men? More often, it is the common girls or even the ugly girls who get with the western men. the women with good jobs are dating successful, handsome Japanese men. The girls in university are dating the best Japanese boys.
For the black/white issue, I know it is hard. I traveled extensively around East Asia and Southeast Asia. Many people have it worse. Just like everything, it comes down to money. I am half asian, half american. I worked in East Asia for 3 years and saw how white people are initially recieved. More than anything, I think white people are taken advantage of. They are sometimes so naive, especially in Southeast Asia. My g-friend told me that Beckham was popular a few years ago but now he “looks like an uncle.” That is what she said. White women peak out so early and go down hill so fast, of course white men do as well. White meat just matures faster than yellow. Beckham is 30, compare him to a Japanese actor who is also 30 and they look quite different regarding age. In summary, beautiful Japanese girls are not crazy about white people or any foreinger for that matter, rather, it is the common, and ugly girl who is not so well recieved in Japan and sees foreigners as an outlet.

You must be a moron and lack reading comprehension. I am African American. I’m married to a Japanese woman. There are hundreds like me, it’s not magic. Just because you failed, doesn’t mean others have, too. Really, you read like a troll.
Before I had much interest in Japan, I was in a summer pre-law program in Memphis. There were a bunch of Japanese exchange students in the same dorm as we were. I remember how all the girls were giggling and pointing at one of our group, a dark skinned Black guy. We found out later they were fascinated by his skin tone, and he was short and slender like a Japanese dude. They thought he was cute and unique. They didn’t try to speak to him or anything (nor did he . . . he was nuts) they just liked his looks.
I have to co-sign Paul on a couple of things. Just because you see Pitt and Becks on posters and such doesn’t mean every Japanese woman is dying for a European looking actor type, doesn’t mean many are. That just means those guys are in a zone where they are popular.
It’s more complicated than matters of attraction, however, most Japanese women considered attractive in Japan are with Japanese guys and aren’t really thinking about being with a foreigner whatever race.
This is a stupid battle, really, I see it going on too often, White and Black ex-pats having internet fights over which “race” is more desirable and why.

A lot of you gys are wrong that say Japanese dont like black people. i go to Japan every year and i have many Japanese friends. I have dated any Japanese woman in Japan and here in California and Hip Hop culture and reggea are the biggest grwoing cultures in Japan with many Japanese woamn completeing in reggea and Hip Hop competions so I suggest that you travel around a lot more places in Japan and actaully MAKE Japanese friends and leanr the culture before you start running your mouth.

In California, Black guys get shot by cholos in the clubs. Japanese girls are into White guys and latinos out here; they won’t even look at a Brother.
It’s pretty much the same in Japan, but in Japan there are plenty of Japanese (statistically allowing for greater diversity within mindsets among Japanese). That is why I got laid in Japan.
However, I am angered to read stories about latrino military men and arab/indian students having multiple girls a night and pretty much just getting laid every day. We all know that they always did like White guys too. However, the consensus is that Japanese do not like Blacks (for the most part), and most Japanese people view Blacks as inferior. Hell, I’d say that most non-Blacks see Blacks as inferior.
I do have a Japanese friend. She’s a very great person, and I am thankful to have a kind and generous person like her as a friend. However, she is only a friend and I would not think of making a move on her (she has a Japanese BF and I’m not the “girlfriend stealer” type).
Also, reggaeton is more popular than hiphop, reggae, and R&B there, so the latrinos and getting more than Blacks (latrinos are closer to Whites anyway, so it’s tremendously easy for them). Pisses me right off (not only because my arch-enemies are getting some when we cannot, but I absolutely HATE reggaeton).
There are more negative images of Blacks in the media than positive. Most Japanese people look down on Blacks as animals. Also, Blacks are probably the only race that is not welcomed into Japan in droves.
Finally, Mark, tell me how it stung when your wife’s parents disowned her?

For the observers, I’ve seen J’s type before, absorbed in covering up his asian fetish by proclaiming himself to be interested in the “culture” all the while bemoaning his being rejected and using racism as a rationale for others like of interest. Some guys hear that “Japanese girls dig black guys” and run over to Japan with high hopes, only to find that things aren’t so easy, like you have to be able to communicate and present yourself as attractive and be a basically nice person. The painful reality of finding out your object of obsession rejects you causes the kind of bizzare reaction you see here — continuing to invest emotions, time and energy in a culture he claims rejects him outright because of his skin rather than his own shortcomings. The irony is his attitude will prevent him from ever finding what he’s looking for as self-sabotage is one of the halmarks of the depression disorder.
If J would put his money where his mouth is, he’d be over at Debito’s site helping out to expose (the real) institutional racism within Japanese society rather than tilting at windmills for the rest of his days there (assuming he actually is there).
On second thought, after seeing some of those drawings on his site, I think I should shut up before I get Columbined.

I do have an “asian fetish” so to speak. I am interested in the culture, but my interest died when I learned that “Black is bad” in japanese/asian culture. Also, it’s AJ, not J.

for anyone new to the program, japan is one of the most racist places on the planet. you’d be a fool to think otherwise. history has shown us this. there is no mixing or breaking barriers with them. they usually just take what they like (style, music, fashion) from other countries and thats about it. they are very prideful people and think they’re the best.
of all the times i’ve dated one of them, i’ve always felt as if i was some free english lesson or just a one night stand. they never wanted to have a real relationship.
i think the worlds ignorance of this is a bliss, but their advantage.

Yes there are racist people.. people are racist from all over.. do you not think racism exists between any two asian countries? (ex Japan and S Korea). People who make it an issue ensure that racial barriers persist and grow stronger. Well, in Japan, most people are ignorant and narrow-minded; I have reason to believe that most people worldwide are ignorant and narrow-minded.
Blacks are being outcasted by all non-Black races. Not EVERY SINGLE non-Black person is doing this, but most non-Blacks look at Blacks as inferior. Japanese also have an inferiority complex to other foreigners, which causes their women to spread their legs easily to all foreigners (except for Blacks). They need to constantly tell themselves that they are superior to Blacks so that they can feel good about themselves.
History has dealt them a better hand than Blacks, and yes, in technology, education, and IQ they are superior to Blacks (on average and by statistics). However, if the Black race ever gets its act together collectively, the Japanese will be inferior by orders of magnitude. People will still say that Blacks are ugly, but we have much more charisma and fortitude than the common Japanese.

What possible difference does it make? The Japanese aren’t going to conquer the world anytime soon. And if they’re predisposed to prefering non-blacks over our people. Who cares? The reality is that they’ve lost their way just as much as we have. I’m sure that I could go to Japan and find a woman willing to date me. As far as her status. Well, when whites go to thialand they generally end up with the lowest class of women. I think that we could agree that as a general rule of thumb the lower classes in any nation are more likely to participate in an interracial relationship.
Considering the fact that Japan’s birthrate is so extremely low. Perhaps they should be greatful for foreigners of all colors to come there to live. Whose going to keep the darned country running after they have a population crash.

Well, must disagree. It is not always the lower class people that date outside of their race.
Many upper-class non-Blacks goto Japan and get upper-class women. In America, many upper-class Blacks take White women as their “prizes”. Personally, I only like Japanese women, but j-girls are easy for all races except for Blacks,a nd Japanese treat non-Black foreigners like gods while they treat Blacks like animals, and enjoy calling us “Saru” (monkey).

On experience and random gossip points, many of my friends say that “hell yeah, the Japanese are one of the number one haters, when it comes to the blacks”. Those are regular comments made by people who were either in the wrong place at the wrong time, or met a few bad apples, because personally I was lead to believe those comments, but after living in Japan for 14 and a half years, I believe the general racism against all races including blacks are slowly dying. (I’m black) I have alot of Japanese friends from college and they’re cool with just about everything outside Japanese culture. (I took them on a trip to Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago for 3 months and they loved it so much)
Even if most of the japanese ppl you meet have a superiority drift, there’s something called ignore and stick your head up high.

Yes, japs are somewhat racist to all non-japanese, but they are far more racist against Blacks. An example of this is how easy it is for non-Black foreigners to make love with and/or get japanese girlfriends while it is nearly impossible for Blacks.
However, you are correct when you say that Blacks are hated all over the world. Different races can get along with effort, but Blacks are perpetual outcasts.
I never said that ALL japanese were bad, just MOST. I do have japanese firends as well that were extremely kind and hospitable to me. The fact remains however that most japanese do dislike Blacks, and to pour salt on the wound, their women are easy for all other foreigners.
