Japanese women dream of the USA
DIMSDRIVE performed internet-based research involving 5,274 people in September of last year to find out which country’s citizens would people most want to marry. It is not stated whether or not the people interviewed were single or not.
The Asia versus the West split is quite noticeable in the men, but really striking amongst the women. I previously translated statistics regarding international marriages in Japan that shows that the ideals being expressed here do not seem to be realised.
On a slight tangent, I watched the last episode of an NHK English learning program which features an English-speaking Western blonde angel that prods a clueless office worker along the path to success at her job getting a date with her transferred from New York colleague, the ideal tall, muscular, tanned, well-coiffured white executive. The angel’s job was done because the glaikit Misaki finally pulled her man.

However for women there is a marked difference; about 74% in total choose the West (over 40% for the USA alone) versus a mere 7.4% for the East, a massive ten to one vote for Europe and the USA.
Next, looking at the detailed age breakdown, it’s only in the teenage girls group that the USA fails to top the charts, losing out to France and Korea, and equal with the UK. For men in their twenties, American women are preferred over the second-placed Korean women by almost 60%, and the Chinese are back in fifth, gaining just over a third of the number of votes of the USA. However, the older men get, the stronger the charms of the Asian neighbours become, with the gap at its smallest being just a mere three votes. Similarly, for men in their forties and over, Chinese women cut the gap from a third to about a half of the USA score.
For women, as they get older (ignoring the over sixty bracket which has a very small sample size, so may be rather inaccurate) the attraction to American men only get stronger; in their twenties, Americans get just under a quarter of the vote, but by their fifties, it surpasses three in ten. Despite the charms of the disturbingly Harry Potter-like Bae Yong Joon Korean men do not seem to be particularly favoured by the middle-aged demographic.
These two main trends noted above are perhaps reflections on Japanese society as much as on foreign stereotypes. The younger men hold images of themselves as charming the sophisticated Western woman, but as they age (and visit dodgy hostess bars…) they come to realise that perhaps only Asian women could accept their typical Japanese behaviour. For women, after having been around Japanese men for many, many years, they too may come to realise that the Western stereotypes of politeness and chivalry are the only things that could satisty them in marriage.
Bonus points if you can name the people pictured…

hese statistics really reflect the extremely annoying tendancy for japanese to consider “western == USA”. When in Japan I’ve often been asked if I’m american (not “where are you from” but directly to “are you american”), which I, beeing european (swedish to be precise), find higly offensive and rude. To me it feels like being called an obese, ugly, stupid, McDonalds-bred, gun-touting, violent, loud, rude, monolinguistic, undemocratic, christian fanatic/terrorist due to the european stereotype of americans which I dare say fits reallity a lot better than the japanese dito.

I’d like to have a Black male friend (not gay, just friends) to go out. Someone who is intelligent, does not use drugs. I moved to an area where 70% are Black. This explains my colour-blindness. I talked to Japanese women, about half of them said that a Black or White or Asian, does not matter, they will go out with African/Black no problem. What’s the issue? If you meet racists, just keep on going until you meet the right person.

First of all, why does ANYONE with an ounce of intelligence entertain ViolentAJ? Seriously. I would understand if he seemed as if he was really searching for enlightenment or understanding. But, it is obvious from his posts that he is bent in engaging in false humility and self-depreciation, as well as making EXTREMELY offensive comments about Asian women. You’ll only end up flustered and frustrated. You can’t change people. Present them with what you consider “rational” ideas, but after that, it’s up to them. Hey, LIFE is the best teacher. As for you non-Americans and non-African Americans, I respect that you are proud of who you are and where you are from. But REAL pride in and LOVE of oneself and one’s culture does not require belittling or insulting another group of people to substantiate your value. Yes, Americans have done a lot of ill in the world, and still do. But, please don’t deceive yourself, they are not in their beds alone. I guarantee you that many of the European Union (including Sweden) countries, Britain, and other countries the Blacks here brag about are in cahoots, also. Is America the only country ransacking African countries? I do believe the French, Dutch, Italians, Portuguese, to name a few, are doing their share of dirt, destruction, and disenfranchisement in the world. And some of THOSE countries have individuals who don’t even want you (Blacks) there. So, let’s keep this dialogue absolutely real. All countries have done and still engage in dirt. In every country there is organized crime, drug and substance abuse, suicide, homicide, domestic violence, child abuse (sexual and otherwise), etc. Which country is perfect? None. There is no utopia on this earth. The same applies for the people. I do agree with what r.k.j. said about America, the media, and being separatist to a degree…but not to the name-calling bit.
And as for Sweden and European countries in general, I used to think that Europe was without the “racial” hang-ups that are found in the US. However, that is a myth. I used to date a White French guy, who I found out, while seemingly open to me, an African American, had some negative stereotypes about Africans and Blacks in France. Anyway, as soon as he let his ignorant beliefs come out of his mouth, we were over. I’ve had similar experiences with other White Europeans, who may seem open to me, but have some twisted perceptions about Africans that are basically human nature for all people. I’m sorry, but I am not “flattered” when people use that “you are not like them” BS phrase. And if any of you are flattered when someone makes such a prejudiced statement, you need to get a grip and some self-esteem. I’ve also had African friends tell me of run ins they or their relatives have had with racism in Europe.
Unlike some Black people, or however you deem to identify yourself in the world (Caribbean, African, etc.), I’m not as naive enough to believe these people are color blind, in the sense that race is unimportant to them. People see skin color. And what’s with Black people surprised when they are mistaken for another Black group?!!!! Get a grip!!! Who REALLY among Black people, other than habesha people (Ethiopians and Eritreans) have a distinct look? In Washington, DC, it is not uncommon for Africans to be mistaken for Caribbean or African Americans, African Americans to be mistaken for Africans or Caribbeans, or Caribbeans to be mistaken for Africans or African Americans. Yet, there’s always this very IGNORANT segment of EACH of those groups that are “appalled” that they are mistaken for the other. Please! There is nothing wrong with looking like another Black group, whatever that “look” is. There is beauty in each group. We (Blacks) are so quick to brag about looking like or having features of another racial group and it’s absolutely pathetic, as if THOSE non-Black features are what give us our beauty. Love yourself and you won’t spend so much time despising people that look LIKE you. Also, love yourself and you won’t spend so much time preoccupied with why you “perceive” someone or another group (such as Asian women in the case of some of the men here) allegedly hates you. Who cares? You’re wasting the time and energy that could be used on finding Asian women who DO like Black men or whatever race you are!
In summary (can you believe it?), I can’t change Dellboy and the people who have this notion that their pathetic attempt to differentiate between themselves and African Americans will somehow elevate them in the eyes of others, particularly Asians, in this case. You’re in denial if you think that people will truly separate you from the other, especially since you really can’t tell who/what people are by looking at them. I’m sure in England, before people open their mouths, you can’t always tell who is Caribbean and who is Ghanaian. Those White Europeans I earlier spoke of, who were downing the Africans, didn’t just have an issue with Africans…they had an issue with Blackness, which means they had an issue with me. This is not the case for all White Europeans, of course. I’ve met and dated some really cool Europeans. Anyway, I wish some Caribbeans and Africans would realize that when they come to America and fall so easily into that false flattery about how they are “different” from African Americans. Too bad you can’t ask Abner Louma, the Haitian that had the broomstick shoved up his butt by officers in New York, or Amadou Diallo, the Guinean immigrant (and brother of my friend), who was shot over 40 times by police officers in New York, if their (Abner and Amadou) “difference” from African Americans gave them a pass….

Overall, I think this article is bull. I’m American, and I’ve been in Japan now for about a year. I took a liking in the culture when I was back home, studied Aiikido, and decided to give it a try. A friend of mine was living the lifestyle that I’ve always wanted to live - living in japan, and doing his akiido - I figured, why not? He wasn’t making much money, but he still was happy doing his thing. As I don’t have a problem finding the women physically attarcitve here, on the flip side, they seem not to like gaijin/americans whenever I’m around. Then again, maybe it was just me. And if it is me, I couldn’t tell you why, since some of the people I know have like 10 different women a week.

Well、I was walking around Namba last night and I asked for directions from this girl. She said that she did not know English much but helped me out. We walked together, and she started rubbing my shoulder a bit. Ok. Something like that might happen back home. She’s just being friendly. Its good to see VAJ finally satisfied.
When I first got here I was begining to think ViolentAJ was right. But then I’ve managed to see a few black guys out there doin their thing, it was a bit confusing. Of course they are into hip-hop, but as for the few gaijin who aren’t so deep within that culture, it might not be as desirable, since thats what they tend to seek when looking for a black guy.
Let me ask you guys a sincere question, if you’ve been in this country for over a year (and let me remind you, I have been going to clubs and social gatherings, while socializing to just about anyone) and got nothing but rude attitudes, stares, and people tryin to hit you in their cars when crossing the street. Wouldn’t you start to think something? I mean, how do you expalin that? I can see if I was maybe sneaking 10 to 15 different women in and out of my apartment at night and they started hating on me or something, but that isn’t so. A friend of mine, who does just about that, tends to even get more. It’s amazing how locals don’t know or care, but yet they try to profile some as being the “player” or bad guy. Then again, he’s white, and Harry Potter just came out in theaters, so i guess he’s in favor. I think white guys living in Japan in general, for some reason, can date just about anyone, and nobody gives a damn.

Just keep in mind, these people are very racist and hypocritical, and hate crimes are done VERY sneaky and subtle.
Of course you have your good and bad anywhere you go, but from my experience living here, they tend to try and single some individuals out, hatin on them and given them a hard time. I so want to make a documentary. Then again, maybe I’m a bad guy with a hideous face and I’m not aware of it.
Anyhow, I don’t think hates the answer, and I like to see people living in harmony despite their background or culture, but as for some of the messed up treatment I get, particularly when trying to mingle with the locals ( as well as the ladies), I guess that’s why, historically, they did what they did.

In reality, the girl that I encountered likes rock music. We talked a bit about classic rock like Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix etc. (well, more like I said those names and she nodded and smiled indicating that she knew what I was talking about). In observation, I have seen ugly white dudes with hot Japanese girls, ugly White dues with ugly japanese girls, and handsome White dudes with no girls but they claim to get a shitload. Same thing with Blacks. I met some Black dudes claiming that Blacks are in demand with Japanese girls, only to see them with none. They claim to get loads though. So i’m gonna be going to Japan next year.. I wanted to go around September so i could also catch the Tokyo Game Show while i was there, but i dont think im gonna wait that long, i might just end up going early next year (like right after taxes :)) I didnt wanna go to Japan by myself but, if no one else wants to come with me then i gotta do what i gotta do. I just hope i have a good time.

Dawg, I tried to talk (in a non-pimpn manner - very sincere) to a girl at the Mcdonalds on my way home. Totally ignored me. I even spoke in Japanese! Not fluent, by the way.
And then the other day, this girl with her boyfriend was all smiling at me as if she was interested, while her boyfriend was behind me on the escalater. Don’t know what that one was about, but I picked up on that shit and didn’t fall for it.
Like I said, they do some weird shit here, and instead of showing appreciation, they get big heads. Behind certain smiles there’s a sense of hatred and envy. They’ve always been known to have a hard time digesting differences. I don’t know, I’m no phsycologist, but as it seems, they just want to be on a planet of their own, away from the rest of the world.
But to answer your question, Onyx, yes, I’ve managed to meet lots of cool people here. I personally can’t click with Japanese dudes though. I have a few who aren’t the typical - they’ve managed to get their heads out of the box - but as for the overall majority, I can’t really find any common ground with them. Maybe I’m wrong for that, but thats just how I felt.

Damn.. Something like that kinda happend to me here in FL about a year ago. I just started rideing the “Tri-Rail” (train) to work for a new job i was starting and i was hopeing in the back of my mind id see some fine oriental girl rideing the train that i could talk to (just got outta a long relationship at teh time). So turns out a couple weeks into this new job, i do see a very cute asain girl rideing the train home the same time i do.
So when i see her get on the train i walk down to her section acting like i dont see her, then as i looked up in her direction i was pleasently suprized to find her drewling at me , but then she quickly looked away.. So here i am now think’n (oh yea its already over) then she gets up like 2 stops later and gets off the train!
I watch her walk out and start huging and kiss’n some white guy who was waiting for her :-/.. At that point i figured maybee she was just studed by my big blackness lololol. So a couple of days later while i was waiting for the train to go home. I was one the phone talking to one of my friends and she comes outta nowhere and walks right past like 2 inches in front of me and gives me some quick eye to eye contact. So i pause what i was saying ad watch her talk on the phone as she keeps walking.. I assess * hmm, why’d she choose to walk so close to me when there was a good 10 feet for her to choose from in front and behind me?? And what was that look about, i thouht she had a boyfreind…* So then i continue my convo and just let the encounter slide ( i do that ish way too much)…
So next week i see her again and i kinda plan to be in her path as i see her coming n i get completely ignored..?? So, by now im confused, i already have a hard time understanding women lol
But this situation was even more peculiar than usuall,s o i just was like forget it. Look but dont touch.. Put the whole thing outta my mind as an option completly.. Later that week she pulls that same walk 2 inches in front of me thing when there was plenty of room for me to be avoided, but again, she’s on the phone.. So i said ok, ill wait till shes off the phone and then pounce… Unfortunately i had a very small window to pounce because she got off the train like 2 stops after we got on and she was on the phone phone to whole time.. So i said “next time i see her i’ll just say whatsup” Never saw her agian 
My guess is she was just rideing the train for a couple weeks while her car was being repaired or something. Mehh.. Onyx again kicks himself in the ass for leting a great oppurtunity slide.. If her motives wernt so confuseing to me i wouldnt acted beofore i lost my chance. Damn she was tooo hot.. Very professional looking like myself, i hink she was Japanese..

Funny thing is, here, from some of the stories I hear of the people I’m cool with, one would think they are such sluts (no offense out there). However, for some reason, if you show the chicken heads respect, they don’t know how to appreciate it. In general, I guess that has a lot to do with the culture as well. Historically, the men have always treated them like crap, and was very controlling, and they don’t know how to react from anything else. Picture cave-man, club, and woman, followed by the him dragging her by the hair.
Anyhow, If you are into martial arts, manga, electronics, ect., Japan can be the place. I’ve been a big fan of some of the anime now for a while (even though I wish they would draw/animate some more “black” or “multicultral” characters in their art work, not just the same spikey haired, Japanese? characters. Changing subject here for a bit. If you ever look at the old, old anime, like 70’s and 80’s, they seemed a bit more westernised, didn’t they? Like speed racer, for example. But these days, you can look at the characters, and they have a Japanese appearance to them. I have always found that interesting.), so I could care less about the chicken heads. I personally just found it a mystery why such a nice specimen like myself was gettin hated on.
Like anywhere, living in a foreign country can be an interesting experience, but as it seems here in Japan, they are very picky on choosing their gaijin, unless you’re white. Possibly, having too much of a conscience, also, can freak them out as well, and unfortunately, individualism and thinking for yourself isn’t encouraged.
