Everyone loves a Hard Gay!
infoPLANT carried out a survey to find the most popular comedian in Japan, either single performers or manzai double-acts. 8,302 people filled in their choice through the opinion poll offered in an iMode mobile phone menu option during one week at the start of October. 30.4% of the respondents were male, and 69.6% female.
The most often chosen solo performer was none other than the man of the moment here, Lazer Ramon HG! “Hard Gay Number One Fuuuu!”, as he might exclaim. HG’s a guy who inspires as much hate as he does love - I find him very funny, on the whole, mainly as he is far more spontaneous than the average comedian, whereas others hate what they see as the negative image of gay people that he portrays. Although he does dress up like the stereotypical leather man, the character behind it is rather a fun-loving sort of image, I feel. Of course there’s the other category of haters that find his pelvic thrusting at children (not as bad as it sounds, really) a bad influence, which I say I must agree with, and I would try not to let any kids of mine watch him.
Now, for the rankings. Note that all the links in the table below go to Japanese pages, usually the offical home page, if I could find one.
Overall best solo comedian or group
| All | Male | Female |
| 1 Oriental Radio | 1 Downtown | 1 Oriental Radio |
| 2 Lazer Ramon HG | 2 Lazer Ramon HG | 2 Nankai Candies |
| 3 Downtown | 3 Oriental Radio | 3 Lazer Ramon HG |
| 4 Nankai Candies | 4 Regular | 4 Jicho-kacho |
| 5 Jicho-kacho | 4 Akashika Sanma | 5 Regular |
| 6 Regular | 6 Hiroshi | 6 Hiroshi |
| 7 Hiroshi | 7 Jicho-kacho | 7 Ungirls |
| 8 Ungirls | 7 Ungirls | 8 Downtown |
| 9 Unjash | 7 Ninety-nine | 9 Unjash |
| 10 Impulse | 10 Nankai Candies | 10 Impulse |
Sanma san was the most popular amongst the 40+ men and 50+ women, as might be expected for the only middle-aged person in the top ten, but Oriental Radio (who I saw for the first time last night, by coincidence) was first for women in their teens, twenties and thirties, and men in their twenties. Hiroshi was tops for the forty-something women, so perhaps he reminds them of their failure of a son?
Looking next at the votes for single comedians only, Razor Ramon swept the board for the young man’s vote, and the twenties woman, but he was was also in third place for the granny vote. The top female at position five was Macha-macha, someone I have never seen or heard of before, followed by Sayaka Aoki, someone I find very entertaining.
There was a supplementary question about what sort of relationship one would like to have with their chosen favourite star, and not too surprisingly, drinking buddy came out tops for the vast majority of the stars. Looking through the rather detailed table, some of the interesting data is that two in five of Tomochiku’s male fans fancied sleeping with her, versus only 5% of Sayaka Aoki’s. 10% of HG’s female fans fancied him (he’s not really gay, he just plays one on TV), and two even selected him as a father-figure.

[…] I hope the AdSense adverts are not too intrusive, as I worry the current set of displayed adverts that I see are not particularly good; there’s a lot of low-cost generic blog stuff, even though I do implement the Google AdSense section targeting options to cut out the sidebars. Perhaps an email to Google Support may be in order? Then again, I’ve just installed the Google AdSense preview tool for Internet Explorer and that seems to explain quite a lot of things; in order to try to get a good search rating for surveys and polls, I use the word quite frequently in my posts. However, that also means that AdSense homes in on that word, which seems most frequently associated with the silly “What sort of shoe care product are you?” type of blog entries, thuus generic blogging ads pop up. Also, the G of HG seems to be a stop word for many ads - that page will probably only display public service ads in the UK and USA. Ho-hum. japan, blogging, execphp, libchart, adsense [trackback] [link] […]

I find it curious that 69.9% of your respondents were females and they were willing to listen to this man to hear what he had to say without first passing religious judgements on him as I suspect would have been the case in our country, even the comments about the pelvic thrusts toward children tend to demostrate a far more willing attitude to deal with these issues in a far more reasoned manner than I suspect would be the case in the United States. How enlighting it is to think there are a people who are willing to listen to reason before passing judgements on others.
