[...] The Cabinet Office Japan recently released the results of a survey they conducted into citizens’ lifestyles. I translated a survey on the same topic conducted two years ago, which may be useful as a cross-reference. See also part 1 of the survey from 2005. [...]

We seem to know that as a nation Japan is very industry driven and hard working, we as a nation in the 60's were somewhat of a nation of dreamers we went to the moon and the stars did not seem to be beyond our reach as babyboomers we had great ideals back then but then we grew-up and had famalies and thing started to change is there something to be said about having a dream and being able to see that dream to fruitation that motivates us to ever greater accomplishments yet when we lose that dream and spirit we loose our will as a nation? Can you frame some questions to ask the Japanese about these issues and how that relates to their current feeling about themselves?

[...] Continuing on from part one, the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan (that seems to be the official title anyway), conducted a wide-ranging survey regarding the people of Japan’s everyday life. This is rather a large survey, so it will be published in three parts on subsequent days. 6,924 people participated in the poll, conducted by face-to-face interviews in various areas throughout Japan. In this section, the Japanese reveal themselves to be rather materialistic, and even though the first part saw people most worried about their old age, living for today takes priority. Q7: When you have had free time recently, what sort of activities have you performed? (Multiple answer) [...]
